November 28, 200718 yr I keep wanting to finally upgrade to a new unit with all the good stuff.I hesitate because I dread having to reinstall all my FS stuff. If I do a complete backup copy to an external HD can I reinstall FS clean and then just copy my backup over the top and overwrite all the files etc I have changed? If so do I have to reinstall GEX,UTX etc or can I just copy these to the backup and copy them back to the new unit?I plan on having 2 internal HD's and my external for my backups.Keeping FS separate on 1 drive and all other programs on the main dr.Am I trying to make this too easy?Could the computer shop that will build the unit do this? Thanks for any advice.Ron any advice. November 28, 200718 yr I just finished a new build and finally got all my FS stuff up and running. Like you, I had almost all my payware download files backed up, but in the end, I found it was better to go back to the purchase site and do a fresh download.Flight One and FSD sent me a list of all the software I had purchased. All of the payware sites were quick to respond if I needed a new key. I only had a problem with one aircraft and Flight One was helpful in solving the problem. The advantage is you get a clean install of the latest version without any registry problems. The down side is you lose all the additional liveries and miscellaneous add-ons we accumulate.Downloading freeware is no problem as long as it still exists and you can remember where you got it from!Anyway you do it, it will take some time and fine-tuning.Dale Dale
November 29, 200718 yr Author Thanks for the response. My question still is though, can I just copy all my stuff back to the main FS folder after I have clean installed FS?Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
November 30, 200718 yr For the flight1 wrapper stuff, you can try to copy over the key and if used lic files, but they may not work on the new machine, and probably better to use wrapper for reinstall. Plus you should probably try to add all entries in registry HKLM-software for your addons manually if you aren't going to reinstall.scott s..
