PCI Express Card Recomendations

Featured Replies

Could anyone recomend a good PCI Express card for FS9/FSX ?Was hoping not to spend more than $100

As long as you keep AA/AF levels at medium or lower, an 8600GT will fit the bill for around 100 bills.Gary

I agree with Gary. I just installed (yesterday) a 256mb 8600. I was guessing that my ATI 9800SE 128mb was my bottleneck (CPU e4600 2.6ghz, 1gb memory). I was luckily correct. My frame rates doubled and tripled from the 20fps I had with my normal setting which I would characterize as medium except for simple clouds, no autogen, and no AI. I have not explored all of the limiting settings for the 8600 except that dense autogen only drops my to 30fps. I fly in the rural areas. With max autogen New York City gave 12fps. Before it was 4 fps.It is rather pointless to try to compare the hundreds of settings possible with a few tweaks thrown in but it was worth the $96 with shipping from Newegg.Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, an LCD, speakers, CH yoke
