December 19, 200718 yr Is there anyone who can compare experience and preference between CH and Saitek?I just read "trelane's" comments in the Saitek Yoke thread on this forum. I quote:"Funny. I was just thinking of popping the $150 for the CH pedals because of the lack of realism on my 3 month old Saitek pedals. The more I use them the more dissatisfied I am with the circular foot motion required to turn the rudder - you spin the pedals left or right around a central pivot point - instead of CHs (what appears to be) more realistic up and down pedal design."Is there any resistance at all in the CH Pedals? Also, when I first installed my Saitek pedals they defaulted so that I had to turn them left in order to turn the aircraft to the right, and vice versa -- is this configuration correct? I'm not a real world pilot but I seem to remember something about: when taxiing push the right pedal for nose left, left pedal for nose right."Does this experience match up with others? I was almost ready to buy these. As a pilot, this sounds horrible. To turn right... your feet have to pivot left?Any comparisons or input is appreciated. Thanks, Steve
December 19, 200718 yr There is an option in the Settings/Assignments to 'Reverse Axis' so that when you push right..it moves right.RegardsJim
December 19, 200718 yr Author Thanks Jim... but don't BOTH of your feet pivot in one direction or another.. regardless of how the Assignment is set? That's what sounds irritating to me. Are you a real world pilot, by chance? Steve
December 19, 200718 yr One foot goes (rotates) forward and the other foot moves backwards. To be fair to Saitek there are many aircraft that have rudder pedals which rotate about a centre axis..although they tend to be very light aircraft and not big heavies.RegardsJimPS: I am in the aviation industry and I work with many different types of aircraft I also fly recreationally (gliders and light aircraft)
December 19, 200718 yr Author That may be right... I just haven't flown one. My experience is in many types of light single and twin engine planes. Jim... the bottom line... do you find the experience satisfying? And one more and another question. The aforementioned poster commented that there is no "stop" or "detent" or "resistance" when it comes to braking with the pedals. He said that causes spurious braking messages on the screen. Any thoughts here. Thanks for your patience with my interrogation! ;^)Steve
December 19, 200718 yr I get the braking messages with the ch also from time to time-you just adjust your "null zone", recalibrate, and sometimes just kick the things a few times!http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/1b5baf...b9f427f694g.jpgMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/ Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

As Geofa said "just kick the things a few times!". ;)I own both the Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals and the CH Pro Pedals. I personally prefer the Saitek pedals over the CH pedals. The Saitek Pedals have a greater distance of spacing between the pedals as compared to the CH pedals which makes the Saitek pedals more comfortable.
December 19, 200718 yr Author Hey Guys ...I just looked at this review and the accompanyiny YouTube video:http://www.justechn.com/reviews/articles/2...dder_pedals.phpIt seems clear to me that the feet move straight forward and back and NOT rotating turning left and right.Am I missing something here? The review sounds promising. And from what Sargeski says, they are more comfortable than the CH pedals.Steve
December 19, 200718 yr They sure look ok in that video...http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/1b5baf...b9f427f694g.jpgMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/ Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

The braking does lack feedback but the null zone can be adjusted so they're not too sensitive.regardsJim
December 19, 200718 yr I have been using the Saitek yoke pedals and throttle for about a week and I'm very satisfied. Your feet don't actually turn with the rotating axis, they simply move forward and back as opposed to in and out like the more conventional pedals. But as Jim Cooper said this a very common type of rudder pedals in many real aircraft. You can adjust the tension to your what ever feels comfortable. The yoke is where I have a slight drawback. even with the shaft well oiled, it seems to be a little jerky. I'm trying to design a small hydraulic cylinder and somehow attatch it to the push / pull shaft and with the correct ammount of oil flowing from one end of the cylinder to the other through a valve, you could adjust it to where any movement would be fluid(no pin intended)and would remove any jerky movement on the yoke. But even as is,I would recommend them. If the rotating axis is annoying, lock the pedals in place, disable the rotating axis and assign the rudder actions to the toe brakes. Blackie
December 20, 200718 yr I have had CH for years and gradually converted to an all Saitek setup. I will just say I have no regrets and the change has been both satisfying and rewarding. CH served us well for so many years but they got complacent and never changed. Saitek has now come along and raised the bar.Just my .02,-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
December 20, 200718 yr Author Thank you, Paul,And others as well. I just ordered the Saitek yoke. I think the kids are getting the pedals. I just HOPE all the re-mapping goes okay. I've never done it before. ... but looking forwared to trying after the Christmas dust settles.Just out of curiosity... anyone... I use the Logitech Freedom Wireless Joystick now. Is it possible to easily switch between which controls you are using. Say if I want to fly the Cub or the Extra and then switch over to a bizjet... is it a pain in the neck? Will everything have to be re-mapped each time? Thanks, Steve
