Help needed, please (nHancer and 8800GTX)

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm hoping there is someone here who can help setup the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX using nHancer (version 2.3.2) and nVidia's Control Panel. I believe nHancer and the Control Panel can co-exist without needing to uninstall the latter.I'm trying to help a fellow Simmer who lives in Alberta, Canada (I live in Scotland, UK) and, having been an ATI Radeon fan for years, my efforts are being hampered by my relative inexperience with nVidia related products. He has FS9 and FSX and we have been trying to create profiles for both, but the settings (especially antialiasing) just won't stick. I suspect they are being overidden by something else. I read somewhere that you should first delete the existing profiles for FS9 and FSX before setting up a customized profile, but this we cannot do in the latest version of nHancer. I am wondering whether the stated default profiles to be deleted are in fact provided in NVidia's Control Panel and not nHancer.I have read Koroush Ghazi's excellent Nvidia Forceware Tweak Guide and came across this paragraph:The latest WHQL Forceware 169.21 (XP) and 169.25 (Vista) appear to have problems with allowing users to force Antialiasing via the game-specific profiles in the Forceware CP. Any forced Antialiasing for specific applications/games may not work; you can only force AA via the Global Settings tab, but clearly this will apply equally to all games, which is generally undesirable. For this reason, you may wish to try an older or newer Beta version instead. Our simming friend is currently using the Omega variant of the 169.21 forceware drivers (Omega 2.169.21).Could it be that he should consider trying an earlier driver set - I believe the ForceWare XP 169.13 32-bit drivers are good performers. What would be helpful is for some kind soul to provide a step-by-step guide to setting things up properly as I am finding my efforts a bit like flying blind in the dark..LOL!Thanks in anticipation.Cheers,MikeOur fellow Simmer's relevant system specs (extract from DxDiag.txt report):System Information------------------Time of this report: 1/27/2008, 04:35:21 Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: OEM System Model: OEM BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel® Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 3326MB RAM (he says he has 4GB installed) Page File: 360MB used, 4849MB available Windows Dir: C:WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit UnicodeDisplay Devices--------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (Omega 2.169.21) Manufacturer: NVIDIA (Omega 2.169.21) Chip type: GeForce 8800 GTX DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: EnumPCIVEN_10DE&DEV_0191&SUBSYS_039C10DE&REV_A2 Display Memory: 768.0 MB Current Mode: 1600 x 1200 (32 bit) (60Hz) Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor Monitor Max Res: 1600,1200 Driver Name: nv4_disp.dll Driver Version: 6.14.0011.6921 (English) DDI Version: 9 (or higher)Driver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 12/4/2007 22:41:00, 5773568 bytes WHQL Logo'd: No WHQL Date Stamp: None

Yes, I can help as I just finnished a new system with an 8800GT.First you must duplicate the existing profile(s). Answer YES to the popup that follows as this deactivates the original profiles. Now delete the new copy/copies you made. And now create a new profile/profiles and set them up to your liking. Now I also found that once you have it working, you can accually stop using nHancer and stop the nHancer service as your newly created profiles will show up in the nVidia Control panel.Hope it helps!

Courtesy of Nick_N btw thank you for all you do Nick!1. Install the new video drivers. Once completed reboot the system. Once back into Windows allow a period of time ( a good minute) for the system to finish installing the new drivers, then, set the correct resolution for the monitor and verify the refresh rate is correct. Reboot the computer again. Set the desktop icons back to where you want them if they moved. 2. For Nvidia systems, install the latest version of Nhancer. Reboot. 3. Once back into Windows, run Nhancer from the start menu. It does NOT need to boot with Windows or have a tray icon since the service runs in the background and will properly influence the settings. When it is first run select NO to have it run with Windows or have it place an icon on the tray. With any driver above 163.xx Nhancer can no longer delete the profiles as it did in the past, instead the way you OVERRIDE the FSX and FS9 profiles is do the following: a. Scroll down the profile list until you find the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 (or) Microsoft Flight Simulator X profile. Click on it once to highlight it. Once it is highlighted, click the DUPLICATE button. You will get a message, select YES to complete the duplication. What that will do is DEACTIVATE the Nvidia profile and ACTIVATE your new duplicate. b. With the new profile in the list, make sure there is a bullet in PROFILE on the right. Go down the list on the right and select the following: AA: For FSX select SUPERSAMPLING and 8xS NOTE: Slower cards and systems in FSX, set to MUTISAMPLING and 4X or SUPERSAMPLING and 4xS Under the next box, check GAMMA CORRECTION DO NOT ENABLE THE SECOND SUPERSAMPLE FEATURE IN THIS AREA AF: CHECKED Bullet in: 16X VERTICAL SYNC: CHECKED, Bullet in: APPLICATION NOTE: I have heard SP2 and Accel have a BUG with the latest Nv drivers where VERTICAL SYNC is DISABLED in FSX. If you see tearing in the image, set the above to ON inatead of APPLICATION OPTIMIZATIONS Tab: Texture Filtering CHECKED Bullet in - High Quality Trilinear Opt CHECKED, Bullet in - Off Aniso. sample opt. CHECKED, Bullet in - Off Negative LOD BIAS, CHECKED, Bullet in - Clamp Check the next three items but do not change their values COMPATABILITY TAB: Place a CHECK in all header values but only change the following if needed: Force Mip-Maps = NONE Conformant Texture Clamp = ON Hi Dynamic Range HDR (Enabled)All others should be at their default values. Under the CPU Multicore Support, REGARDLESS OF THE TYPE OF CPU YOU USE: FOR WINDOWSXP SET CPU TO SINGLE FOR WINDOWS VISTA SET CPU TO MULTICORE Repeat the above for any other game profile as you may need it. c. In the main Nhancer Window, set the bullet to GLOBAL Set the SAME settings on GLOBAL as you did above. Close Nhancer and reboot. 4. Open the Nivida Control panel (right click desktop, select Nvidia Control Panel) Show the ADVANCED settings. Under Managed 3D, make sure the Multi Display Mixed GPU is set to SINGLE DISPLAY MODE if you are ONLY using one video card and monitor. If you use more than one, leave the setting on defaultClick APPLY. FOR LCD: Under
