February 19, 200818 yr Moderator Just curious. I'm thinking of getting a 28" LCD with a native resolution of 1920x1200. Currently running a 22" at 1600x1080 and getting good results.Is there a significant frame rate hit going to 1920 or is it negligible?I plan on running the 28 and the 22 sidew by side from the 8800 GTS card.Thanx,VicQ6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.65Evga 680i A1 with P31 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx 169.38 betaKandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-supporter-sigbanner.jpg RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
February 19, 200818 yr Moderator Hi Vic,If you feed a single display with the higher resolution I don't think you'll get any loss of fps at all with a card as powerful as that. What I'm not sure of is the effect of feeding two displays. I suspect performance might be affected quite badly. I'm sure someone will already be doing this so hopefully then can advise with actual experience.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). February 20, 200818 yr For me: one monitor, any resolution, no problem, up to 1920x1200 tested. Two such monitors, catastrophy FPS wise - especially if you plan going to 2nd monitor for views.
February 20, 200818 yr Author Moderator Well I went and bit the bullet and ordered the 28" so I'll be able to tell very soon. I plan on the 28 at 1920 and the 22 at 1600. I mainly use the second monitor for FSMAP, weather gauges, GPS etc. Just played around with overclocking the 8800 and I have it up to 675 with no issues so we'll see. Also, I have most sliders on the high end and traffic about 50 so I have some tweaking room there also.To be honest, after seeing the results of GEXen and UTX on my current system I just HAD to get a bigger monitor! At my age I don't get too excited about things but when I first flew a flight at dusk from Lugano to Geneva I just stared at the screen and said WOW! It was a definite reminder of when I used to fly IRL.No, I am not a shill but just one happy camper!VicQ6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.65Evga 680i A1 with P31 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx 169.38 beta o/c 675Kandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-supporter-sigbanner.jpg RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
February 20, 200818 yr Moderator Hi Vic,I don't blame you spoiling yourself. I do it too. :-)Have you considered a second PC? Networking them is relatively easy with XP/Vista and it doesn't need to be powerful for running all those FS-related apps.Heck, you could even treat yourself to Project Magenta whether you fly GA or a Boeing.Going down the network route has two big advantages... 1) You can switch to full forward view on that enormous FS display and 2) With far fewer programs running on the FS PC peformance should be smoother.I never regretted the move and it extends the life of a PC to 6+ years as the FS PC can become the supporting one. February 21, 200818 yr Hi Vic,I am currently running FSX on a 24" @ 1920x1200, and a 19" @1280x1024 on an ATI HD3870, and a 17" monitor hooked up to an ATI X1050. I only loose 2-3 FPS with the additional two monitors engaged.I have a second computer networked and hooked up to a 17" monitor set beside the other 17" and 19" that I use for FSMap. Bill
