March 3, 200818 yr Hi guys,I have the spec as listed below.I am wondering if I upgrade the display card to a Geforce 8800 and upgrade to Vista, will that improve the performance in FSX a lot?I couldn't upgrade my CPU so those seems like the only thing that I can upgrade. Thanks for any comment.Vincent---------------------------------------VincentDell 9150P-D 2.8G2G DDR2Nvidia 6800
March 3, 200818 yr I tried your strategy with my P4-2.8 system, but was really disappointed. You've got a great FS9 system....Vista will not improve anything, so stick with WinXP if FS performance is your goal. To run FSX well, just read this forum and you'll find, as I did, that a Q6600 (or similar) with an 8800GT on a modern motherboard is what will do the job. Bert
March 3, 200818 yr there is no magic bullet that will get a seriously underpowered system to provide unlimited performance. The new GPU may help a bit, but the CPU is really letting you down. It's a first generation Core Duo, which will be rougly an order of magnitude slower than the current generation, not 3 years later.
March 3, 200818 yr I have the same system you do and I upgraded the video card to the 8800 and I have great performance in FS9 which is fully loaded with AI traffic and just about any other addon you can think of. I have all FS9 sliders maxed and even at JFK I can get 20 fps. Pre-8800, I would get about 8-9 fps. FSX is kind of OK. If I don't add a lot of AI traffic, I can get around 15 fps. If I run everything at Ultra High settings, I can still get 12-15 fps except around dense airports like JFK, LAX, and ATL, then it drops to 5-6 fps.In all, I'm happy that I upgraded my card. All I was looking for was a little better performance without having to bear the expense of completely replacing my whole rig and that's what I achieved.
