Where to place Anti-Virus

Featured Replies

My new puter will have a 150G Raptor @10,000 rpm...Also I will have a 350G Sata @ 7,200Both the OS and all games will go on the Raptor for sure....But which drive should I place my Anti-virus and Spyware and CC-Cleaner? And why?Thanks.....Mason

Anywhere... just because. :)I would place it in the default directory, most likely within the "C:Program Files" structure somewhere. Factoring in speed, performance, and effectiveness - utilities like AV and anti-spy software really will not have any serious hard drive impact on your machine.-Greg

You will get much better performance out of FSX/FS9 if the OS is on its own drive and FSX/FS9 resides on its own drive.

So then..You are saying to place the OS on my slower Sata drive and my games on my faster Raptor drive??? Or Vice-Versa???Or to place the OS and games on the Raptor drive..This way keeping junk off the faster drive??Please elaborate...I'm tired, old and confused...LOL Thanks...Mason

>You will get much better performance out of FSX/FS9 if the OS>is on its own drive and FSX/FS9 resides on its own drive.Tell me if you know for sure, does the performance (smoothness) impact caused by .wav file loading improve when you set up FSX on a sep drive than the OS drive?Right now I am planning to put FSX on a 73GB scsi 15K.5 drive all by itself. FS9 runs so well even on the same drive as XP that I see no point in moving it to a different drive. I plan on installing Vista64 sometime when I get around to it. It's unopened in box right now. I will put it on a new 250gb SATA 2 drive, and FSX on the scsi. Should be pretty dang racey, for FSX that is.QX9650 w/ Retail HSF|8GB Muskin PC-6400|ASUS P5E|EVGA 8800GT @700|Seagate SATA 2 x 4|Seagate Cheetah 15K.x|XP Pro|Vista 64--soon to be installed

>Tell me if you know for sure, does the performance>(smoothness) impact caused by .wav file loading improve when>you set up FSX on a sep drive than the OS drive?Noel,I do not know for sure that it impacts .wav file loading. I can tell you for sure that having FSX on its own dedicated drive definitely increases overall smoothness within the sim (overall improved file access).
