April 1, 200818 yr Hi,I went and got this card, installed it with the 8.3 drivers then noticed in the ccc that it lists onlt 512 of ddr3 and only showing one card. This is probably a stupid question but could the reason be that i am running it on a evga 680i board,or that my power supply has only 6pin connectors.the rest of my system is:Q6600,2xseagate 320gb hd,creative x-fi,ocz 700 watt power supply,4gb crucial ram,Vista64.thanks for any help,Tony.
April 1, 200818 yr The 3870x2 has 2 gpu's, each with 512mb memory. Perhaps the ccc you have only lists 1 gpu. Perhaps later, they will release a new version that properly recognizes the gpu. You'll need to ask Ray Proudfoot about this, he has a 3870x2. I'm only looking at them for a new build.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
April 1, 200818 yr Moderator Hi Tony,Firstly, don't use the 8.3 drivers. They return a very low 3DMark06 score. The 8.2 are much better. You can download just the drivers here. http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.htmlSecond, get rid of CCC. It's not really necessary and ATI Tray Tools will do far more for you using a fraction of the resources. Get the beta one from here. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=255769The reason you're not seeing 1024Mb of RAM is not because of your power supply or the mobo. Probably because the card has two GPUs on it. Device Manager also sees two entries under Display Adaptors but I'm sure all the memory is accessible. This card really needs a 8-pin and 6-pin connector. You need to connect a second power adaptor otherwise unexpected results may occur. Ray (Cheshire, England). April 1, 200818 yr Author Hi Guys,i will give the 8.2s a try,i have also tried to use tray tools but vista64 seems to be the problem,i keep getting driver not signed warnings, and cannot start the low level driver.I have tried some of the suggestions on different forums, but no luck yet,so am stuck with ccc.I thought that about power supply but decided to try anyway, so i guess ill have to shop for a new one.all the best,Tony.
April 2, 200818 yr hi Tony,i have a 3870 X2 as well. the reason you don't see All 1GB of Memory is because "Each" chipset only has access to 1/2 the total Memory. no different than a "single" chip board with 512MB of Memory. the only way all 1GB will be used is when you're running the card in "Crossfire" mode (both Chipsets active). and, you'll need the CAT 8.3 or higher drivers to do so. it's just BS marketing hype. trying to make you think because there's 2 Chipsets that means "double" everything - performance & all. unfortunately, this is becoming more common with ATI and Nvidia when it comes to marketing their cards. each chip has a 256 bit bus to the Memory as well. not a 512 bit bus. i upgraded because i thought there was a prob. with my ATIX1950 XTX. and, believe it or not there's only a very very small improvement in performance at best with FS9 & FSX. rather diappointing considering this is ATI's 2nd series of DX10 cards. imho, their (ATI's anyway) DX10 cards are no better with FS than their high end DX9 cards. happy flyin, fm
