I have a Powercolor 4870 PCS and I have no problems with clouds. 30fps with most of the options at high and autogen at dense.Traffic: 100%.Drivers: Catalyst 8.8Very happy with the 4870.

Try using FSAA and Trilinear settings within FSX, and 4x FSAA and 16X AF in the video card settings.

My PowerColor 4870 1GB runs FSX extremely well.No problems with clouds.Altered the BIOS to change the fan scaling speed.Using Cat 8.9 right now.

My experience with a Powercolor HD4870 1 GB card has been just the opposite of those folks who have replied so far. I'm getting very poor results compared with my previous card, which was an 8800GT, and I'm desperate to find a solution for the stutters I'm suddenly experiencing. I'm using the latest Catalyst drivers (V8.1) with: AA set to 4x edge detectAF set to 16xCatalyst AI set to AdvancedMipmap detail set to High QualityWait for vertical refresh on (same as nVidia's VSync I guess, and HAS to be on or I get screen tearing, probably because I use FS Force)Adaptive AA is enabled at max.I run 1920 x 1200 locked at 30 fps (for smooth panning with TrackIR)All the other settings within FSX are as recommended for FTX.Any suggestions for better settings? Resolution changes make no difference to frame rates. I get no change setting the frame rates within FSX to unlimited. The card works fine in Crysis; it's just in FSX that I have major issues.Cheers,Noel.

If your are over-clocking your system this could be an issue. You might have to turn it back a bit.Virtualwombat, I would try the following.First use the 8.9 or 8.10 driver release. I am using 8.9 right now.The 8.10 release has a slider for the fan. Try 8.9 first since we have the same card. Don't forget to use DriverSweeper.in ccc -set standard settings to quality after first moving it to performance, and leave all settings the way they are.enable Overdriveset your fan speed to 35% (use Rivatuner or whatever)run auto-tune (tell us what clocks you get)test custom clocks and then acceptin fsx use in settings (on tabs left to right) - use AA by checking it tri-linear filtering unlimted frame rate global texture very high uncheck lens, bloom and animations 2-d cockpit check high-resolution check aircraft landing lights illuminate others unchecked first four sliders on the left to max right water to low 2.x scenery complexity to dense autogen off for now (depends on what your cpu can to) ground shadows off special effects low cloud draw to left thermal none detailed clouds at medium traffic tab to whatever your cpu can handleRUN FSX and tell us how it is. Try the Baron 58 at KPHL runway 8 and just take note of the framerate while sitting on the runway. If FSX runs well then you can experiment with higher settings.
