September 29, 200817 yr A serious hard drive crash is forcing me to rebuild my system.* I have ordered a newer, larger drive, and I am trying to decide which operating system to install: Windows XP Pro, which is what I am using now, or Windows XP Pro 64-bit.If I do move to 64, can I still run FS9 and FSX?* Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 motherboard, Q6600, Nvidia 8800GT, 4 Gb RAM, X-fi Gamer sound
September 29, 200817 yr yes, and if you run FSX SP1 or greater then the FSX.exe is already largeaddressaware and can utilize memory beyond the 32 bit upper limitations. If you use FS9 you can modify the .exe to make it largeaddressaware allowing FS9 to exceed the 32 bit limitations as well...-PaulPrimary RigLiquid CooledIntel C2D E8500 468X9.5 @ 4.45Asus Maximus Extreme2 gigs OCZ Reaper DDR3 @1400Dual OC'd XFX 8800GTX @ 2 gigsDual VelociRaptor 10k 3gb/s RAID-0Dual WD Caviar 500 gig Raid-0Single 150Gig SATA2 Swap Drive28 inch LCD 16XAA/16XAFDual 19 inch LCD'sPCPower and Cooling 1k Quad SLISaitek Yoke, Saitek Rudders, Go-Flight Flap,Gear and Trim Controlhttp://home.comcast.net/~psolk/3monitorsa.htmlBackup RigsIntel E6600 @ 3.2Asus P5N32E-SLI Plus3 Gigs Kingston Hyper XXFX 8600 GTAMD 4000 San Diego @ 2.72 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2XFX 7900 GTX Raid-0 Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
September 29, 200817 yr Thank you. I guess a further question would be: is it worth the extra hassle? (Right off the bat, I know that one of my non-FS programs won't work. I could buy a new version.)

September 29, 200817 yr I've been running XP 64bit & 4Gb RAM since the beginning of the year and I love it. I've had no support issues at all. In FSX with all my addons I've seen as much as 2.2Gb memory usage in task manager so I know I need the memory. -jk
