November 8, 200817 yr Hello friends,i have build an new computer for flying my FS2004. I choosed an ATI 3850 graphic card from Gigabyte. Note, this is my second computer, buld with "old" hardware from my "first", FSX tuned computer.I expect some problems with FSAA in FS2004. When i activate it, maybe 4x or 8x, it works fine. But when i move to the desktop while flying, or change fullscreen to window mode or back, the driver seems to loss the FSAA settings, the sim looking crisp. When i made a change then, e.G. from 4x to 8x, it will reactivate. A little bit uncomfortable.Bevore some years i expect this problem, too. But i moved to NVIDIA for a long time. My last ATI card was an x800. So i am not so expirienced with the ATI settings. Can someone give me a tip how to resolve this problem?Exist there an tool, like "nhancer" for Nvidia grafic cards?Thank you very much!Karsten SchwegmannCore2Duo E6600@3200mhzGigybate GA-965P-DS4Gigabyte ATI 3850 Pcie2GB DDR2-800 "G-skil" 5-5-5-15Samsung Spinpoint 160GB HDDWindows XP SP3
November 8, 200817 yr Hi Karsten.Where do you set the AA? Try to set it in the Adapter's settings, not in the FS. Also make sure you Disable the Application... check box. TV
November 9, 200817 yr Hi,What version of the drivers are you using? I had this problem with (If I remember correctly) the 8.0 to 8.2 versions of the drivers... I now use the 8.4 version as these are currently working best for my setup - For some reason the newer versions mess up my ability to switch fullscreen to windowed or back again but I'm using an AGP version of the card so it might work for you...Geoff
November 9, 200817 yr Hello,i tryed all settings, cross and over. But then, i "found" a solution. The driver from the ATI Website was 8.1, but the latest was 8.9. I did not find the driver on ATIs website, so i d/l it from guru3d.com.And see, you are richt Geoff. The problem is resolved. With my nvidia card(s), i made the experience, that FSAA is not usable in windowed mode, only in fullscreen mode. With the old ATI driver 8.1 i hat FSAA in full and window mode. With the new driver, FSAA is only in fullscreen availible. I think, it was just a "switch" problem. I never fly in windowed mode, so i don't cara about FSAA in window mode.An other problem:When FSAA enabled, 4x or 8x, the 2d Panel ist really blurry. I used the "panel as bitmap" in fs9.cfg and solved this succesfull. Without problems. It seems, ATI ist ... maybe better compatible with FS2004 as nvidia. Only with nhancer is it possible, to make finer settings, with restrictions. The panel as window option works, too. But sometimes with problems. The "IVAP" window by ivao deisable FSAA while displying on nvidia cards. With ATI, not.The only "small" benefit is, that the ATI card is not so smooth like nvidia with "supersampling" settings or something like that. The a litte bit texture flimmering is not to solve. But it works really stable, thats important.Hmm ok, thank you for answering.
November 21, 200817 yr Finaly, my problem is not solved yet. Because the silly texture flimmering occurs, i installed Ray Adams ATI Tray Tools to test "hidden" functions. But this was the beginning from end :(It was not possible for me to activate any FSAA in FS2004 when this Tool was installed. I de-installed the Tool, the driver, and cleaned all with "driver sweeper". I reinstalled the 8.9 driver. When i start FS2004, FSAA is active. When i made an Task switch, or change from full to window mode, the FSAA settings will be lost.Yesterday, i though i had found the solution. I set my TFT freq. to 75hz, and in the control panel "set same as desktop". That worked - yesterday. Today, as i rebooted my computer, the problem is back.Curious, isn't that?Is it an problem of my Computer, or is it a known bug or similar? But, i expected this problem first some years ago on an AMD machine with an X850 Pro Card. A compatibliy problem?Best regardsKarsten
November 27, 200817 yr Interesting. I have just changed from NVidia to ATI after having no success in resolving the FSX Menu d3d9.dll crashes with my 7950GT card. The ATI 4850 solves the menu problem but I see the some odd AA characteristics:1. If I tick "Use Application Settings" in the CCC I have no AA etc in FS9 - irrespective of the settings I make within FS9.2. Using setting within the CCC, I get good AA etc in FS but, as above, I occasionally lose AA in FS when changing aircraft or position etc. The only way to recover the situation is to reset the CCC settings?I have been unable to find any info on ATI setting procedures on the forums. I am using the latest 8.10 CCC and would be grateful for any advice or pointing to any help on the use of the ATI and its CCC in FS.John R

I run two OS with 1 Sim each.Because the FSAA problem i had (and i can remember, this issue on a total other PC with an radeon 850) i changed to nVidia for a long time. But i used EVER the nHancer. And the nvidia drivers with nHancer is a good combination for FS9 and FSX or other apps.I thing, ATI is absolute second class (like AMD!!!). Those curios problems with FSAA enable/disable... sorry that is not my opinion about quality.Similar to nhancer fpr ATI is the ATI tray tools by Ray Adams. But this app crashes my windows when i shutdown it (bluescreen). And it did not solve the none FSAA problem. It doesn't matter which driver i use. from 8.6 to 8.11 or the omega driver (based on 7.x driver) - no success.Sometimes, it works great - till i restart my PC.Did you ever de-install CCC and looked what happen? Without tools like "driver sweeper" you can re-install your OS or live with error messages. The support from ATI - forgot it... This problem with FS9 destroyed my plans to buy an ATI x2 Card. With so much problems... no thank you.Instead, i will replace this 55 EUR card (my 3850 in 2. PC) with an similar nvidia card - maybe a 8600 or something like that.It seems the be only possible solution. Pity :(Best regardsKarsten
December 3, 200817 yr I went through this issue for awhile as well when setting up FS9 to use different config files for the specific aircraft I was flying. Turn off AA in Flight Sim and make sure you have it set up in ATI CCC or ATI Tray Tools. DO not use "let application control" and you should be fine.I will grab some screen shots of my settings when I get home. I now run ATI 4850 with no problems at all.
