Team AVSIM Practice Thread #8

Team AVSIM Practice Thread #8StoneC0ld has the Baton PADL - CYXYPractice continues.----------------------------------------------------We are conducting a practice run for Team AVSIM to prepare for the Round the World Race. The actual race begins on February 20th. So this is a good time for old veterans to renew their skills and for new teammates to get the procedures down before the actual race begins. One of the keys to our winning the last two years has been our organization. We want to keep the baton in the air. That means that we try to have someone at the destination airport waiting, with engines warmed up and flight plan filed, ready for the arriving teammate. When the landing pilot announces on the forum "The baton is free at ICAO" (ICAO being the ICAO of the landing airport), the waiting teammate immediately announces "I have the baton" and takes off. (Best if each Race Leg begins in a new "subthread")The sequence looks like:----The "I have the baton" poster grabs the baton and takes off.He then, or in a forum edit a couple of minutes later, gives the destination airport (ICAO) and ETA in Zulu time. For the Rules record, the pilot also gives his aircraft.Under that thread, the pilot posts updates to the flightplan. Changes in ETA or destination. The pilot lands and stops on the runway. He stops the Duenna and takes his Flight Analysis screenshot. And then he declares "The baton is free at ICAO"The next pilot grabs the baton, saying "I have the baton" and takes off.-------The ETA should be in Zulu time (say 1425z). (Zulu is UTC or what we used to call GMT. For current Zulu time, go to http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?UTC/s/0/java ) Posting the destination airport and the ETA allows the next pilot to begin his preparations

I have the Baton - CYXY to CYXD in Beech Starship @ FLT 340

The Baton is FREE ! @ CYXD. Time was 8 minutes over incurring a 24 minute penalty wait at CYXD ( Edmonton Int'l ) However, did travel 817 miles. Flew the Beech Starship - love this aircraft! But will try routes around 700 mile mark to be successful under 2 hours, now that I know.Q. Do you know how to setup TeamSpeak program?Sean. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/107094.jpg

http://www.goteamspeak.com/help.php?t=ts2tutorialThis link will provide you with some basic setup info regarding teamspeak. There is a live teamspeak server which avsim.com has permission to use for the RTW race. The name is bn.turbulentsky.com. Instead of typing in the IP address they use in the tutorial (from the link), use the name instead. An alternative is to simply install teamspeak, and then run the program. I use the 'quick connect' feature and type in my server address (bn.turbulentsky.com) and knickname. There is no required login or password (which, BTW, the Bush Net Flyers disapprove of). You should get the "Link Engaged" message. You can then switch channels by clicking on them in the teamspeak window. You need a microphone and speakers or a mic/headset in order to use teamspeak fully. Under "Settings", there is "Sound Settings". You need to set a "push to talk" key, if that is something you desire. I use the "`" key (FS's ATC key) so that when I'm in MP mode w/ teamspeak, I use the same key to talk to people as I would when playing single-player and using ATC from Flight Sim. It works for me.Good luck, and welcome to the team!

RE: The Baton is FREE ! @ CYXD - 8mins penalty x 3 = 24minsHi,There is no penalty on your flight. We go by Forum Time, and according to your two forum posts, you are under by 3 minutes.(The forum time does not match real time)Time starts when you grab the baton with a post, and ends with the baton is free post. In the future, you may want to write down the time you post according to your own cloack and keep track that way.You must grab baton before you take off though.I suggest you download and grab the Duenna program which automatically creates screenshots to upload.Welcome Aboard.Regards,JoeJOIN The AVSIM RTW RACE FLIGHT TEAM****************Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

CYXD - CYMY - Howard 500leg aborted due to overspeed breakup (twice) I'll pick a more robust aircraft next time

Thanks Joe, I was unaware of using forum time. I miscalculated the time in fact. I have Duenna already but had problem with it starting after posting that I have the Baton so I just used the regular flight analysis. I have since fixed the problem and should be using it from now on.And I will now write down the forum time when I take the Baton.Thanks.Sean. :-beerchug

You need to announce that the baton is free again because of your aborted leg.

Thanks KC. That should definitely help. I have proper headset/microphone so it shouldn't be a problem.:-beerchug

Hey guys-I've been watching the forum as excitement builds for the race, and the practice thread as everyone works out the kinks. I'd love to pick up the baton next and run a practice leg, but I'm stuck in a hotel room on a business trip. The good news is I'll be home on Friday night, which leaves all day Saturday to practice. Plus, I've got Monday off (President's Day in the US), so I'll volunteer for some the late Sunday/early Monday flights when everyone else is sleeping.I had a blast last year running the UHPP-PASY leg. I'm very much looking forward to participating in several legs for this year's race.I picked up the Avanti when it came out specifically for the race!Just wanted to let y'all know I'm still out there. Can't wait for the race to start! Have fun with the practice. GO TEAM AVSIM!-Chris WT1L

Chris,Wow, terrific to have you back. We were missing your skill and savvy. It will be wonderful to count on your help. Please do practice a couple of times. Get the Duenna and get a feel for the new rules. Look forward to seeing you.Best,Mike MacKuen
