FMA & Anti-ice

Featured Replies

Hi,Two new questions have arisen...1. What is the reason the FMA is one of the items checked during the Receiving Aircraft flow considering you're sitting on the ground by then and no flight modes what so ever are active?2. When using anti-ice during departure, the start switches are left at Continuous. Should I as the CA then switch them off as well as turn the anti-ice off manually when flying to a destination where no anti-ice is required?TIA,

Hello Richard,1. To make sure it's ok... you never know.2. Start Switches need to be in CONT any time wing/engine is on. With FS2Crew, after departure you (the Captain) must shut off the wing/engine anti-ice manually (along with the Start Switches) at some point in the climb after the FO performs his After TO flow. The FO will not shut them off.Why do you have to do it?Because it's not yet possible to "read" from a programming point of view where the clouds are in FS2004. There are weather radar programs that can do it, but I don't know how they do it.Same thing for the approach. If you indicate during your brief that wing/engine anti-ice is going to be used, YOU need to manually turn them on at some point in the descent, and set the Start Switches to CONT. The FO will not do this for you.Make sure your engine/wing anti-ice and start switches are in the proper configuration your briefed for when the wheels hit the ground, and preferably before the FO performs his Approach Flow at TDZE plus 5500'.Cheers,Bryan
