Beta Key, honestly ?

Featured Replies

I suppose I understand the fact that since it is a beta you would need a key, but I just think it is lame that there is no longer an NDA on any of the FSX betas and we subscribed (basically paid) for the fsx beta only to be excluded. Indeed, it is random. I am only saying however that I think all who are willing to pay should not have to deal with a time limit especially for a beta that in reality is basically just a bigger demo. At least if you don't get a key then you shouldn't have to deal with a time limit that's a double whammy being excluded from MP is bad enough, but a time limit ? I suppose it is only for a month so it might not be so bad. Perhaps next time there is a beta for FS (FSXI etc.) maybe you can pay for a key too ? or pay to not have a time limit (I could go for that).Sincerely,Tony Nelson

The timelimit is utterly unnecessary for a prerelease build of the game, let alone no multiplayer.

Release the keys, release the keys! :-lol Gary

I'll second that. I've been trying out some of the missions and doing short flights in different areas to check things out. The new default planes are great, especially the VC's and I really like missions. Now that the NDA has dropped it would be great if they released more keys so we could try the multiplayer stuff and do some longer flights/missions. I suspect the beta has a drop dead date programmed to prevent it from running at all after the release date so what do they have to lose? Please? :-halo

I sincerely think it would be a great idea in many respects. All of which I could go on and on about. If need be I'd paypal microsoft directly to get ahold of a key just to play the Beta without a limit. Multiplayer or not, I would love to be able to finish a decent mission but so far that is proving impossible without increasing the simrate x16.

I aggree. It's not Like We didn't pre order the software already and don't plan on bying it. Heck, I'm having it overnighted as soon as it ships. I think if we pre ordered it, we should get a beta key. I was extra dumb. I spent like $35 to sign up to File Planet in hopes of getting a key.

Its like what I read on another thread in this forum. Technically FSX isn't even a beta anymore the NDA is lifted and there is no more reporting of bugs so basically what happened was people paid for the FSX fileplanet TRIAL and received keys along with it and the rest of us paid the same amount but get nothing all so that those with key can help report bugs that do not need to be reported ? I read on one of the MSDN blogs that the ACES team is simply working on compiling a good copy of FSX as a release candidate which ergo proves that this fileplanet beta has no point other than to give those who are willing to pay a taste of the full game before it arrives on shelves and right now, those of us without the keys are feeling a bit ripped off.Tony N.

Besides, how hard can it be for ACES to release more keys???

I would just like to know the logic behind it and if there is any way to get ahold of a key.

For the fifteen millionth time, you didn't pay for the friggin beta. You paid for a very good download service. This download service also offers incentives to its paid subscribers from time to time, such as exclusive beta access and free full versions of games (the hit points thing).Fileplanet has been doing this for years. It's not a scam or a bait and switch; it's an incentive. The 16 year olds who have got the Battlefield and World of Warcraft betas get how it works. Why doesn't the FS community?

I love it how those with the non-crippled FSX beta tell the rest of us to take a chill pill. Please do not tell us how to diet while you are feasting on your green-grassed pastures!Gary

I really wish everyone could try out the beta especially the multiplayer. I think it would be great to see how it would work on a slightly larger scale...there just aren't enough people on most of the time.

because the way they select the people who receive the keys has no logic behind it as in money has no definite value and the way the beta release works has no logic behind it. It is not the fact that you pay for the service rather it is the fact that you know that Microsoft is and was aware of the fact that their beta "public" release was being placed on a site that would charge for it or charge for a way to obtain it. Knowing this, it seems more logical that keys would become unneccesary and rather those who are willing to subscribe to this service would be rewarded anyhow as opposed to those who subscribed and still are left with a lousy time limit. It is Microsoft indirectly. You are right we didn't pay for the beta directly. It was paid for indirectly. Something more logical would have been to release a beta and a sign up on the Microsoft Flight Simulator X homepage and then decide from there who gets the keys, but this is not the case, sir. That would be logical. But that case, is not so and this is why we ask thus, or according to you that we "do not get it". You are right about that also, at least for myself. I do not get it. I don't get it why one would be fully cognizant of the fact that you are releasing something that will inevitably have a price put upon it and yet still realize those not fortunate enough to have a "full" beta relase will instead not only go without extra features but also have a time limit on top of that. That is what I do not get and the one and only way to fix that is with a key. Is it not enough to be unfortunate and to have given money to be unfortunate ? Is it right to be punished for not being fortunate ?

Hey Alex, Come on it's not enough fun between you, badderjet, UAL076 & joelt we've had some fun! :-) But it would be nice to fill one of my hosting sessions up a lot more!AKA: CDPHOTOVIDEO
