Well, I think that it is. Look at the pic: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/173536/L/Do you see those silver handel things at the bottom of the panel near the center pedstall? The captain has his foot resting on one of them. What I was wondering, is what are they there for. Are they made for this reason, so people can rest their feet on them cuz I can't see why else you would have handels all the way down there.Cheers

Hey rici.Yep, foot rests. They are painted in the color of the panel, but these are a bit worn out :-) Airbuses have them too, but they look more like they are part of the panel, rather than handles. Check this out: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/321843/L/

Duh! Are you sure? The pilot would have to raise his feet some way! I dunno if that would be more comfortable than just restin' on the rudder pedals! :-eekEtienne :-wave

Hey Etienne.Haven't seen you around the A/C and Panel Designer Forum, maybe I missed you.Yeah, they are foot rests. I have tried them, and in long flights it helps to change the position of your legs for a bit. They are quite popular among flight crews.

The footrests on the Airbus are quite fancy. They are actually stirrups that hinge downward when you put your feet on them. The picture you see shows them in the retracted position.

Sitting in a normal position for long periods of time can result in blood pooling in the feet and legs and lead to a blood clot. Passengers on long flights are encouraged to get up and walk occasionally. Pilots, I suppose, don't always have that opportunity so raising their legs would provide some relief. You'll also notice many road bikes with high-mounted footrests (usually chrome bars). R-

A while ago there was a debate about this matter on a Belgian Television Station (VTM I think). It seems that trombosis is a cause for some deceases during long flights, especially on holiday charter flights where leg space is oft very limited.hm
