Tileproxy Beta 6 Prerelease out

Featured Replies

Today I have tried this pre-beta 6 with FSX SP1, the first try was fantastic! No strange stripes bug, no irremediable blurries, just something that works. I have some blurries after some minutes but with refreshes I have crisp textures. So I recommend to all the people who have problems with RTM to use TP pre-beta 6 with SP1 with the hope that the results will be good for everybody.

I have had a complete break-down of graphics once on FSX RTM.Suddenly corrupted tiles started popping up everywhere. I must have confused the terrain engine big time ;-)I think the culprit is that sometimes a texture may switch from DXT1 to DXT3 encoding, depending on the contents of the alpha mask. A tile that may appear like solid land or water in the lowest resolution may require a more complex water mask in the high resolution. But the sim expects a tile to always stay in the same compression format. If the format changes, the sim goes haywire or crashes.Christian

Haiparbus,When running FSX SP1 and you fly until blurry tiles, does FSX eventually catch up on its own? or do you always have to manually reload the scenery? I had to manually reload so that is why I switched back to RTM.Christian, I too am having the striping problem same as Haiparbus. I had seen this problem a long time ago, I think when I was running beta 4 or 5 using FSX SP1. I solved it by going back to RTM, but now the problem is back. It also crashes FSX alot after a bit, but sounds like you have a handle on what may be the cause.I only wish that SP1 would work on my machine, but that is not a TP issue. Still, makes me wonder why SP1 works on many machines but not on mine or Haiparbus and is MS doing anything about it. I have some very expensive FSX addons that will not run without SP1 but I will gladly give them up in favour of using TP!!! and I am sure many others would agree!

Dragonlick, I have to refresh sometimes but the textures load normally, even if it is slower than for RTM, I think that the SP1 is especially interesting for recent computers with Dual Core and a good Nvidia card, but for a 3 years old computer with pentium IV, a graphic card with 128mb memory and 1 GB RAM as I have, it is very disappointing, but for the moment I keep SP1 until Christian found the source of bugs, I can enjoy this great addition of water.

Hello *.*I found the bug that was causing occasional black tiles. Now I need to find the reasons for the striping problem and add some missing features. And stability also isn't perfect yet.Attached find a 7-zip compressed version of proxyUser.exe for FSX SP1that no longer contains the black tile bug. It's only the proxyUser.exe binary. Replace the one in your Tileproxy folder with it. You need the free 7-zip decompressor to unzip this. This was the only way to stay below the 150 kb limit for the forums.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/177120.zip

Those who get a lot of messages "unsolicited tile access by application ... svchost.exe" might want to disable the SuperFetch service from Control Panel Administrative Tool Services. Set this service to "Manual" and shut it down if it is currently running.Christian

Thanks Christian, does this also fix problems for RTM? or SP1 only? I may try installing SP1 again and see if it works better now. But will this fix also work with RTM???Yes Hypairbus, I have an old machine myself, single core and I think that is the problem as well. It almost looks as if the team focused only on getting dual core to run better and overlooked all us old fashioned ppl, haha.

Thank you Christian for this perfectioning work!

Hello Christian, the new release is defenitely better than the one before. Now the black areas are gone.I use the proxyuser_sp1.e and have renamed it to proxyuser.exeThanks for the improvement !!Everything was very well in the New York area, but now I am getting strange messages again: redirect, retying, cleaning up, giving up and so on.What can be the reason. I am connected with G****eArry

They temporarily locked you out for suspected overuse. I now have a prototype window that allows you to enter a so-called captcha (basically an embedded IE browser in a window). What's remains is to use this cookie from the browser cache inside Tileproxy. Essentially they permanently identify you with this cookie and allow you access to the map tiles while you use that cookie. Prior to that you have to identify yourself as a "human being" by entering a short text message that they display show to you in an image on the web page. This identification method is called a captcha.Did you know the expiry on their cookies used to be till 2038? (roughly 30 years). Now they voluntarily reduced that lifetime to 2 years to calm down fears of privacy violation.

Hello Christian, all I understood is, that there is a way, to ungergo being locked out and that it is called gotcha. Please tell me, what I can do.Ich danke dir schon mal herzlich fuer die Hilfe.Arry

"Captcha" ;-)this is not ready yet in TileProxy. So I cannot tell you how to use it.It means they show you an image that a machine cannot possibly interpret. You enter the text shown on the image and prove that you are human and not a machine. And then you are back in service. The fact that you are now allowed to use the service again is stored in a session cookie.

Thank you for the information

I gave beta 6 a shot last night. Initially I received the message "Warning! Could not generate water mask!" and had all my ground textures scrambled, but after more testing it seems there just is no mask data for brisbane, Australia, as Hawaii and San Francisco looked fine. For some other reason, my performance has taken a nose dive, but that might easily be other factors as I haven't played MSFS for over a month, who knows what I 've done to my computer since then. Understandable there is also more of a hit if I raise my water options to mid.2x, since before I had them at minimum.Shouldn't there be boat traffic now though? The water masks are cool! Good work!

Ah, my bad. I was checking the longitude against + 60 degrees and not the latitude. Meaning no water coverage east of 60 degrees longitude. Duh. Thanks for reporting that bug.Yes, I was once seeing boat traffic near Venice on the Tileproxy water.Christian
