December 2, 200817 yr What factors effects the startup time of FSX? How long should it take to start FSX? Is there anyway to speed loading time of FSX?Factors - everything you have in FS, and your computerHow long - from 1 minute to 10-15 minutesSpeed loading - remove addons, buy a faster hard drive, a faster computerThe basic problem with programs like FS is that every addon you put in FS, every aircraft, every gauge, every scenery, every modified airport, every AI traffic file, every new texture - every one of those files needs to be read and checked. Every config file needs to be read and checked. The more you add to FS, the more you customize FS for your personal preferences, the more time it takes to load. One of the first lessons I learned back when I started adding AI to FS2002 - start FS, then go get that cup of coffee or other beverage, make the head call, start the flight planning.Don't get everything setup then start FS, use the start up time efficiently - not sitting in front of the computer, then you won't notice the delay much.
December 2, 200817 yr The principal problem seems to be that FS X pre-loads the default flight from the initial launch and even before accessing the User Interface. If that default flight is very resource-intensive, and the "Friday Harbor tour in a trike" is such a flight, then load times can be noticeable. Two possible solutions come to mind:1. Create a default flight in an area with little scenery and with a simple aircraft. Load times will diminish accordingly. Or,2. Prevent FS X from loading the default flight at launch. To do so, add this line to your fsx.cfg file in the MAIN section:DisablePreload=1Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
December 2, 200817 yr What factors effects the startup time of FSX? How long should it take to start FSX? Is there anyway to speed loading time of FSX?1. Speed of the video card2. Speed of the processor and memory sub-system3. Speed of the storage system4. As Luis mentioned, the preload factor. I use the config edit he posted to remove the preload5. Addons. In example, a addon like UTX in which the user has all the night lighting options enabled.. the night lighing can increase load times. 6. Sceney and autogen sliders excessive for system ability (goes back to 1 and 2)7. Disk fragmentation8. A combination of 2 or more, or, all of the above

December 2, 200817 yr Download O&O's Trial version of their defrag. Use it to defrag the drive that FSX is on. Choose the Defrag/Name option. It will make a world of difference in your load time.http://www.oo-software.com/home/en/products/index.html
