The more detail that has to be rendered in front of you, the more impact is has on your systems resources. this is why texture sizes/amount of texture sheets, less draw calls, less polygons on models, LODs in models, lower/excluded autogen settings, etc are important, they help in lessening the impact there is on your system.

Sorry guys. I am asking about the new MegaEarth scenery.Jeff
Should be higher than default scenery due to the absence of vectors (streams, roads), the lack of or much less dense autogen etc. It's basically just a big 2D photo, cut into pieces and projected directly on to the elevation mesh.
