Real Garmin with FSX?

Featured Replies

I realize this is kind of an off the wall question, but is it possible to use a real Garmin 696 or 496 with FSX?

Yes, as long as you install the GPSout utility that Pete Dowson has available, and you have the necessary cable to connect between your computer and the Garmin. See http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html for details on GPSout. Also, use "GPSout" as the key in a google search to read more about it...

The standalone version of GPSout is for FS2004 only. A registered version of FSUIPC4 is what is needed for FSX as it includes all of the GPSout functions.Todd

Is it two way? Can I change something on the 696 and have it happen in the simulator? I am really just looking for a way to control the GPS with knobs. The best solution appears to be the product from Elite simulations (a GNS430 module), but it does not support FSX yet.

Hi,No, GPSOut is not 2 way. There may be other products out there that are two way, but not using GPSOut.
