Laptop Problem

Featured Replies

For the third time I fear my laptop has gone wrong. It's a HP DV9292eu.Specs are:Amd Turiion TL-602gb RAM160gb HDGeforce Go 760017" screenOn the previous ocassions, I get a couple of beeps at startup and the screen would never come on and would just remain black, however everything else seemed to work as normal. This was fixed by HP and they put it down to the motherboard.A new problem has just arisen today. I just booted up FSX, and then get a black screen. Everything seems to be frozen until I get a flashing BSOD. I couldn't make out what it said because it was flashing, but I saw the words "video driver" in their somewhere. After this the laptop just restarted but the screen was mighty strange. Take a look at these pics:p1000383s.th.jpgp1000384k.th.jpgp1000385n.th.jpgp1000386e.th.jpgThese dark patches seem to move around the screen, until it all goes white and then there are thin black lines running horizontally from side to side. After a few minutes, it automaitcally restarts itself and the same thing repeats. To me, it looks as though the screen has been damaged but I've never dropped the laptop or poked anything into the screen...It was also fine before I started FSX.Anyhelp would be appreciated muchly..

Rob Maybe is running and those are bad clouds. If it hasn't been too long since HP worked on it, maybe they need to try again. Can you get into the BIOS? Probably not, but if you can, then the screen may not be totaly wasted.Bob

Cheers for the reply :)Haha, perhaps the screen has changed to infra-red mode.It was last year that it was fixed but this seems to be a recurring problem for a quite a few of HP's line of laptops. It seems to be something to do with the Nvidia GPU which is intergrated into the motherboard. HP are aware of this, but are just replacing faulty motherboards..with more faulty motherboards. Doesn't seem as though I can get into the BIOS as pressing any key makes no difference. Thanks for the help

Well, I only have experience with three HP laptops. Come to think of it, they are Compaqs. I guess they are the same. One died outright. One the power switch went out and I can't find a new one. And mine is three or four years old , still going strong. You have to decide how much more you want to mess with yours. Good luckBob

Did you try connecting the laptop to an external monitor?I am trying to determine if the problem is with the laptop's screen or if the problem is a failure with the mobile GPU that is built into the motherboard. The quality control of many brand name computer manufacturers (Dell, HP, Gateway) has gone downhill since 2005.
