May 8, 200917 yr Well, something has really gone crazy in my FSX system. All the oceans have turned to ground texture with trees. Really looks weird. I tried removing scenery packages that I've installed lately - no joy. I tried various locations - all green with trees. Since this seems to be a global problem I looked into the areas that control scenery but could not see anything that might cause this problem.I've been using FSGenesis for quite some time but I don't believe this is the problem. I installed a "brown water" package a while back but I changed the files back to the default ones with no joy.Anyone know where I might look to correct this issue. Greatly appreciate any help.fb
May 8, 200917 yr Hi,This is either a terrain.cfg issue or a scenery.cfg one. Also, are you using Ultimate Terrain? If yes, try unchecking the "Exclusion for FS default scenery" checkbox from your scenery library. - PC Hardware: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D // Asus ROG Crosshair X870E HERO // 2x32Gb Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 // ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition // 4Tb Corsair NVMe M.2 MP600 // Corsair 1600W PSU Samsung Odyssey Arc 55" curved 165 Hz monitor. - Simulator Hardware: VIRPIL Constellation Alpha Prime + VIRPIL VPC Universal Control Panel - #3 + MOZA AY210 Force Feedback Yoke + WINWING URSA MINOR 32 Throttle & PAC Metal + WINWING SKYWALKER Metal Rudder Pedals + WINWING Airbus FCU & EFIS + WINWING Boeing 3N PAP + WINWING MCDU-32 + WINWING PFP-4 + WINWING PFP 3-N + WINWING PFP-7.

Nasty things happen!Instead, start up the Ultimate Terrain Setup Tool and let it fo it's verification checks to see if the necessary entries are in the Terrain.Cfg file. If they are not, the Setup Tool will reinsert the required entries. The "everything is now land" can occur if running the FTX line of products and forgetting to toggle it OFF when leaving thier coverage area.

I cannot turn off this mode. It is on presently.

I thought you meant the default entry.I'll try the UT exclusion, thanks.Meanwhile, I turned off the FSX Mode for FTX products and that didn't work.Thanks.fb

Now, for my system, what does this checkbox do to FSX scenery display? I"ve had UT products for quite a while and never had this problem. Does this mean UT is screwed up?
May 9, 200917 yr I"ve had UT products for quite a while and never had this problem. Does this mean UT is screwed up?No, don't worry, it probably means that you have installed a scenery that has a compatibility issue with UT.Now, leave this box unchecked, close FSX and launch the Ultimate Terrain Setup Tool once, it will check back this UT exclusion switch and your problem would be gone! This routine (uncheck/close FS/launch the tool) is the only way to get rid of these compatibility issues !!:-) - PC Hardware: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D // Asus ROG Crosshair X870E HERO // 2x32Gb Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 // ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition // 4Tb Corsair NVMe M.2 MP600 // Corsair 1600W PSU Samsung Odyssey Arc 55" curved 165 Hz monitor. - Simulator Hardware: VIRPIL Constellation Alpha Prime + VIRPIL VPC Universal Control Panel - #3 + MOZA AY210 Force Feedback Yoke + WINWING URSA MINOR 32 Throttle & PAC Metal + WINWING SKYWALKER Metal Rudder Pedals + WINWING Airbus FCU & EFIS + WINWING Boeing 3N PAP + WINWING MCDU-32 + WINWING PFP-4 + WINWING PFP 3-N + WINWING PFP-7.

But, when I returned to FSX, the box again was checked and all the water had disappeared. This is a global problem and it doesn't seem to be associated with FTX packages because I've had those since the developer brought them out and they didn't cause any problems like this.In addition, I haven't installed any global scenery - only airports and AFCADs. I've checked my configuration files and haven't seen any obvious problems. I resorted back to an FSX.cfg file that I knew was properly established and it didn't change anything. I even removed all the entries in my scenery.cfg file that were recently installed - it didn't help.I guess I'll keep looking. I still don't know what checking and unchecking this exclusion box does to my system. Thanks for your responses - appreciate it.Frank

I'm at the church office right now ... but this problem happened to me half a year ago or so. I wish I could remember the exact details of the fix. But I couldn't get my FTX switch to work, either. All that terrain and no water. I couldn't get the water back by starting the UTX. That had been the easy fix in the past. So I posted on the FTX tech support for Payware forum ... and got a quick answer. There was a file in my FTX folder within FSX that had become corrupt, I think. FTX tech support e-mailed me a replacement file, and that fixed it instantly. When I get home, I'll see if I have any notes left on that. Wish I could remember the exact fix. I'm not positive but I think it was Holger Sandmann that e-mailed me the fix, but I'm not sure. If you get on the FTX Payware Support forum, I think they can help you. Take care ... Steve

May 9, 200917 yr Hey Frank ...I got home and found the links to the posts. The post I made on the FTX forum is: http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?to...g72114#msg72114Then when I didn't immediately get a response, I posted here on the AVSIM FSX forum: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?act=pos...21&t=249843In reading these through, I'm not sure my problem was the same as yours because I was able to switch to FSX on the FTX Mode Switch, but FSX was corrupted, inluding no water. But sounds like similar things.Holger Sandmann [a GREAT scenery/MESH designer for FTX, FSAddon, and himself] is the one who sent me a file via e-mail. Unfortunately, I can't find a record of the file he sent me, nor his e-mail address, right now. But I think you can access it through the member profiles on the FTX forum. He is extremely knowledgable about all of this.Hope this helps a little. Steve
May 10, 200917 yr Commercial Member I really wish people would stop suggesting that you should disable the "UT Exclusions for Default Scenery" as a way to attempt to solve issues where what should be water is shown as land. With this layer switched off all that is happening is that both UTX scenery and default scenery are enabled at the same time. This will cause its own set of problems for UTX users, and does nothing but mask the real issue which caused the problem in the first place. If you are using UTX, you should never disable the "UT Exclusions for Default Scenery" entry in the FSX Scenery Library. As for the real issue, it will almost always come back to a problem with the FSX terrain.cfg. FSX itself, and add-on scenery products like UTX, FTX, Vancouver X, etc., use this file to map texture information for vector data (such as roads, railroads, water polygons, etc.) and to control automatic placement of some objects like power lines, light poles, etc.. In some cases these add-on scenery products make additions to the terrain.cfg (e.g. UTX, Vancouver X), in others they replace it with their own version (e.g. FTX).In the case of products which replace the file with their own version, you usually have to disable it and return to the 'normal' version when you fly in areas outside of that covered byt the product. This is what you have to do with FTX and they provide a tool to switch the files for you. If this tool is not used, or fails to switch back to the 'normal' version, you will see issues like water shown as land when you fly.In the case of products like UTX and Vancouver X which add their own required entries into the terrain.cfg, if something then comes along and removes these by overwriting the file with a default copy (as would be done by installing FSX SP1, SP2 or Acceleration) or by replacing it with a custom edition (as in the case of FTX), when you then fly in areas covered by the addon such as UTX, you will also see things like water shown as land. Luckily these products supply means to re-add the entries they require. In the case of UTX you just need to re-run the UTX Setup Tool for this to happen.I would recommend that users of products like UTX and FTX who are seeing such issues, utilise the support forums for their respective products. There they will get expert help from the developers to identify and fix the root cause of the problem.Jeff
