Multi Monitor Support for FS9

Recommended Posts

I will start off by saying that I am currently running Vista64 with FS9.1. My video card is an NVidia 7950 GX2. My problem is as follows:I can run FS9 without a hitch. However, when I attempt to move any window (FSNAV, especially FSINN, MSFS Checklists, etc) to my second monitor I run into problems. Primarily one of two things happens.#1 When I start MSFS my second monitor will continue to display the desktop#2 When I start MSFS my second monitor will go blank/blackWhen I attempt to move something to the second monitor (i.e. FSINN 1.3 CP) the window will not display, assume the image of the desktop (no buttons will display etc), or cause the second screen to flicker from black to the desktop. The windows will still "be there" and retain functionality if I click ont he ATC button of FSINN that window pops up) but nothing really shows. If I attempt to correct the problem and move the window/program interface back into the primary monitor it usually keeps the blank image of the desktop while still keeping the functionaility mentioned above.Any and all help would be/is appreciated in this matter! Thanks in advance! I would post this in FSINN's forums, however, I don't have the "special permission" nor are any of the e-mail links to the moderators working for their forums. As a sidenote, I will say that I have installed SB3 with the option of running dual monitors. The SB3 window is on my second monitor, however, usually that monitor is black, and I have to switch back and forth (ALT+TAB) or (ALT+ENTER) out of MSFS to get it to pop up correctly, if that even works at all. I am running (trying) in fullscreen mode if that is any help.

-----------------I am not familiar with Vista but I run triple monitors/triple views on WinXP with no problems. EXCEPT- Full Screen is impossible! Have tried everything with no success. Solution was to go with regular Windows desktop but auto hide Menu and Task bars and change colour of Title bars to black/dark gray with dark green lettering. Also change colour of Desktop itself to black/dark gray. Resulting appearance is very close to Full Screen and the performance is smooooth.Alex Reid

I have had no problems running FS9 on two monitors (one video card) or on three monitors (two video cards) and I can run in windowed or full screen mode. Like Alex, I run Windows XP. I suspect that your problem is Vista-related.R-

I've got the same problem with Vista. I was told to set up in windows mode which I did but as soon as I try to undock the panel and move it the hour glass goes crazy and I have to quit. I've tried it with both the lds767 and PMDG737ng, I don't think either were really planned for Vista. Side note in FSX any panel I need just slides over in full screen or windowed np.

Same here. I'm running three monitors on one XP system, and two on another through Wideview with no problems.

In Vista, your route will be Matrox Dualhead or Triplehead. It's the only way to use more than one monitor in a way that is convenient for flightsimming. XP can do without, Vista has lost this function.

Well poop. :( Anyone else have any encouraging news? :( Thanks for the input guys!
----------------Can you make multi mons work in windowed mode? Here is what it looks like when you recolour title bars, autohide Menu and Task bars and set desktop colour to black (see below GPS & above Sw panel). Hard to distinguish from Full Screen!Alex Reid

Make sure you have the Windows Sidebar turned off and Aero disabled. I had the crazy hour glass thing and I found that Vista's Sidebar was the criminal. Also, the latest 185.xx nVidia drivers with nHancer 2.5.1 set up per Nick Needham's guide is a lot more stable too, if you're using an nVidia 8000 series or higher.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

I haven't narrowed it down yet, but I can do fullscreen in FS9 on multi-monitors when I have Anti-Alias turned off and filtering set to bilinar. If i switch AA on or to triliner then I cannot do it...only in Windowed mode. However, I'm getting used to it.

-------------------------Interesting. I have long used those same settings (AA Off & Filter=Bilinear)- and multi mons do not work in Full Screen on my sys. (AMD 1.8 with 2 GeForce FX5200 GPUs- AGP/PCI)Tried every setting known to mankind- nothing works for Full Screen/multi mons. Perhaps it's the Triple Views that screws it up. But perfectly smooth in Windowed mode- so smooth it is very flyable right down to about 7 FPS. (Nearby objects such as runway lights flashing past wingtips may exhibit some chattering.) [There is only one CPU- so only one view is being updated at any moment. The other two views are always static so 66% of the whole view image is always unchanging! Smooth! A neat optical trick to fool our brains. Frame rate appears to be largely meaningless with multi views.] Alex Reid
