FS9 and Vista file permissions

Featured Replies

On loading I get this message. I run my computer as the administrator (only one using it). UAC is disabled. Even if I start it with "run as administrator I still get this damn message. Any ideas how to get around it? Running Vista 64 ultimate.fs2004.jpg

Cheers

Did you install outside of Program files(x86)? That might help. Be absolutely sure that you are set up as an administrator. I didn't run into this when I installed so it seems strange.

It is installed to Program files (x86). Should it be in the other? I never really know what should be in normal program files and what should be in the The sim has been running happily for quite some time. I did some scenery installs and then this damn thing popped up. I never know whether I should install something in the Program files or Program files (x86) folder. I usually settle on the installer defaults.

Load Windows ExplorerNavigate to your FS9 root folderRight-click on the FS9 folder name and set the Properties/Security to "Allow Full Access"In general, any program (such as FS) that needs to be able to read/write to anywhere within it's own folder is best installed anywhere except the bloody ..\Program Files folder... :( I've got FS2002, FS2004 and FSX all installed on a separate hard drive:E:\FS2002E:\FS2004 VirginE:\FS2004 FullE:\FSX VirginE:\FSX FullI use the "Virgin" installations as a quick "backup" for any files or folders I (or some "installer" manages to destroy in my "Full" installation... :(

Good advice Fr. Bill. My only bad experience besides the security, is when you try to change anything such as adding FSSound.dll, you can't get rid of the warning message. That is because being installed under X86, the core program is protected. It resists any changes. That is why many people suggest installing outside of X86.
