Landing Lights vs. FPS

Featured Replies

I've noticed a strange and new problem in the past week. The illumination of the runway by landing/taxi, etc. lights has an ENORMOUS impact on frame rates. I can't understand why or what I've installed to do this. Sitting on the ground at Atlanta in the Level-d 76', landing lights OFF I get 30 FPS in the VC. Switch them on and I'm down to 15 or so. System: XP Media SP3 Pentium D 2.8 NVIDIA 8500GT (185.85) 512mb, 3Gb Ram... I'm guessing I've installed something that replaced the original Lnd. light textures. Where/what file concerns these so I can replace with the original? :(

Hi ZachJust a shot in the dark here, could it be "spotlight"?Also, did you try to look it up by its "date modified"?

I ran a defrag and for some reason, the fps are back up. Strange...

In your main texture folder there is a file named Halo.bmpPackages designed to "improve" lighting will often replace that file with a revision of it. If you want to try restoring the original file (which may or may not help) it is located on Disc 2 in the MSGAME3.cabAny file in a .cab can be viewed and extracted using a good zip/unzip program such as WinZip.Hope that helps.

Isn't 'halo.bmp' for point lights only?I can be mistaken, but maybe it has not so much to do with ground projected lights...If you suspect the problem is caused by an addon you've installed recently, you could simply uninstall that (I assume you have 'mind records' about recent tweakings on your sim)

Just tossing this in, as Onur said, 'spotlight.bmp' is the texture that displays landing, taxi and other light splashes. For the life of me though, on your system I don't see why it should chop that kind of fps, even if the original were replaced with a larger texture. Still, you might try replacing it from your fs9 discs as Opa described.

Mark
