PMDG and F.O.C Plans

Featured Replies

Is there anyone out there using both these programs? F.O.C does have a fairly steep learning curve and questions to the forum at Danur.com can take a long time to get answered. I have managed to get the program working to the point it will generate an FSX flight plan but am not sure if it s possible to load it into the FMS. It is early days for me with the MD-11 and I am slowly getting through the manuals. If there is anyone willing to give me a heads up on the loading on plans into the FMS I would sure appreciate it. I believe the standard FSX plan has problems with regard to the PMDG aircraft. Peter Coveney

Hi Peter, I'm an enthusiast FOC user, because his high professional planning. Unfortunately his computer interface is a bit poor, and it look like an old style windows application. So, personally sometimes, I use FOC and FSBuild to import the flight plan into PMDG's FMC. But it's not mandatory. It's very simple, to input long haul flight manually. You have to refer "RTE VIA" section of FOC's flightplan (it's bottom in the first page), and it will be very real operation since also real pilot input the flight plan manually.RobBlueSkyVirtual captain

Thanks Rob,I agree the interface is very antiquated and it would really benefit from some modernising. I believe the developer has some personal family problem that prevents him from doing much at present. One problem I did have was trying to get F.O.C. to copy the PMDG Tutorial flight from EEGL to LSZH at FL370. I set FL370 in the cruise altitude box but the flight plan wont go above FL290. I really need to read the manual some more to see if I can make the Route go to the same height as the tutorial. Have you experienced anything similar?Peter Coveney

I looked closely at FOC but found the GUI clumbsy and antiquated and went with FSC instead. No trouble with it.

I'd say that FOC accurately represents the look, feel, and functionality of about 90% of the real-world dispatch software suites being used by airlines and corporate operators. There's one glaring exception, but they don't pay me to advertise for them. lol.Nick

I have found F.O.C. but cannot find the FSC you mention. Can you help me? I am looking for operations planning that will calculate MD-11 fuel. Peter.

Hi, Peter, FOC it's right. Route from EGLL to LSZH is only 460NM, so it is too short climbing up FL370 with a heavy MD11. You may check weight section in FOC and if you wanna climb to FL370 reduce it to minimum (no pax no cargo). You have to reduce weight in the aircraft also to match aircraft weight and FOC input.Keep in mind that FOC is a very accurate tool.Bye RobBlueSkyVirtual Captain

Thanks Rob,I sort of guessed it would be something like that but wondered if the program could be "persuaded" to accept the higher altitude somewhere. Seems like it is written in stone to prevent a situation like you say.CheersPeter

Talking about Dispatch, I feel much more at home with Jeppesen FliteStar (especially with it's weather, enroute winds, and NOTAM sources) which does very acurate fuel planning if using real life winds in FS (ActiveSky). I have used this to plan even some oceanic NAT routes with it for the B744 from PMDG using my own made profile and the fuel predictions were incedibly acurate! However has anyone used FightStar with MD-11? I haven't made a profile yet. --eric bocaneanu
