Captainsim WX Radar Released!

Featured Replies

actually it's not totally unrealistic to have a top down weather view, it's kind of like what datalinked weather radars do, although there aren't many civilian ones at the momentAl
Almost every GA flyer I know at least in the US now flies with datalinked-via Garmin 396/496's, 430's-units like Anywhere Map, king portables, and tablet pc units. That is the beauty of the xm feed-not only metars, taf's,depictions of fronts, low, highs, airmets, sigmets, tfr's, cloud depiction, lightening strikes, and composite nexrad-(which gives you a "slice" like a cat scan of the weather and displays the worst of it-vs. the "base" that normally see). Xm weather is either $29 or $49 a month and usually pays for itself in one or two trips that you are able to complete where as in the past it meant either another stop to wait out weather or a hotel stay.

Actually Al you can install it on the pedestal between the two FMC lol :( integrated in the VC... at least it works with the RXP 500...Will have alook at this one for the VC.... should be easy :(Untitled-1-11.jpg

See above post, where I mentioned having done that yesterday, so I know you can. But... it's not quite as simple as it would seem, as the gauge is in two parts, so you do have to faff about a bit, although it certainly does work.Al

Yup, that's where I put it too, but you can see the fly in the ointment on that shot, the screen is there, but the buttons (being a separate gauge) have to be concentrically positioned in the same location, with the display screen slightly smaller, so you can control the range, azimuth, PRF and other stuff. Otherwise you have to use the 2D panel's buttons to adjust it, which sort of defeats the object of it being in the VC really.Additionally, when you do that, it becomes no longer switchable as a DU of course, so you have to be happy with it in the location in which you put it, and even though that's a great place to have it, it's not the best location for it if you do proper engine starts, since it prevents you from displaying the EGT and N1 values on the DU next to the start levers. It was all that which led me to think it would simply be better to go back to having it as a 2D panel, so I binned it out of the VC and have done that instead. It was a fun experiment to do it, but ultimately it is more flexible on a 2D panel.Al

Shift 3 gives the WXR in 2d as with shift 2 the FMC (still 2d there too) so you have both from 2d and 3d ;-) but with an immediate update of the WXR screen.I switch via 2d but not the need to have the 2d gauge on screen since it's parked in 3d space...As always you have to do concessions if there isn't a separate space for the gauge in 3d space. If there would be side by side EICAS you wouldn't need the lower place at all for the aircraft systems...But as state it works just fine in different aircraft :-)
