What's the problem with my signature?

Featured Replies

I've been a member of the AVSIM's forums for many, many years and have been using the same signature all the time and all of a sudden I get a message telling me my signature is no longer accepted - what's the problem!?

Well, off hand I'd say it's too large in a couple of areas.. did you check it against the rules that have also been posted for many, many years ? Kind of like speeding in your car I guess, you might go years without getting a ticket and THEN..... :( 1.) Only one (1) image is allowed2.) That image shall not be larger than 400 x 68 pixels in size3.) The image file shall not be larger than 20 Kbytes in size4.) The image can be animated, but shall not exceed the 20 Kbytes sizeYou can use text in your signature, but the use of any image shall adhere to the abovehttp://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?act=Hel...E=01&HID=21

OK, guess the problem is the size then - just tried to save the picture to my desktop and found that it's 370x100 pixels.Too bad since I really like my signature and have been during all the years I've used it here at AVSIM and quite honestly it feels a bit so-so having to remove it because it's 32 pitiable pixels too high and especially after donating money to AVSIM to help with the rebuild after the hacking of AVSIM. Also the thing is I haven't chosen the size of it myself since it's one of the official signatures of the Virtual Airline I'm a member of but consider the problem fixed...you don't want to brake the law now do you...

I'm just guessing here, but I don't think you get ANY special privileges at Avsim for donating to the cause. Well, maybe a hardy "Thanks!" :( Of course, you could always edit the image to reduce the size to be within the guidelines (rules). If you don't have a graphics editor, may I suggest you Google - irfanview - (it's freeware and quite versatile) and edit your VA's image. If my math is correct, that would leave you with an image 68 pixels in height (max height) and approximately 252 pixels wide...... still quite viewable and also within Avsim's rules. Cheers Gene

Hi Gene,Thanks for the tip resizing the image myself but since it's a "live" signature that also shows my current online status by resizing it myself I would miss out on that functionality so I guess a simple //Richard will do.As for any special treatment for donating money to AVSIM I wasn't expecting any, just felt a bit ironic having to remove a signature I've used for many years and very active years that is right after donating to AVSIM to help all of us beeing able to continue enjoy this great community.A question I guess some admin could answer is if the rules for signatures or how close they are watched to be followed have changed since the "new" AVSIM was re-born after the hacking incident?Cheers,

Actually, the image can not be animated (even though I see a mod with a animated ant running around :( ). See the post at http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=246645

Yup, looks like Tom Allensworth changed the rules, animations are no longer allowed.

If you look at the link I provided, you will see that it states "NEW Rules and Policies Regarding Signature Usage and Images" and the post is dated Mar 22 2009. I would assume that this trumps the older rules. :(

Do you not know how to check your SIG graphics or are you just pushing for trouble now? You refer to the current rules posted by Tom Allensworth and then put up a new SIG that is oversize... I'd say you seem to be enjoying your stay at Avsim looking at your various posts, why make things hard on yourself and Avsim staff ... what gives?

That's more like it James, thanks for the support :(

Staggerwing, perhaps you should question some of the mods on their own sigs as there's more than a couple breaking the rules, though this does not excuse me. I put up a sig supplied by fswc for their supporters using their link. I made the assumption that it was inside the rules (yes, I know what they say about "assume") simply because it was designed to be a sig for all their supporters. It has been fixed and I will pass it on to fswc that their supporters sig graphic is oversize for Avsim.

Feel free to ask the mods in question about their SIGs, I have enough work making it through the foums putting out fires in the least amount of time as it is :( Yes, many of the "advertisements" from commercial and non-commercial add-ons are over the Avsim size rules.. the Avsim members need to check them before use, as you found out.Hope they read your Email and make one to fit Avsim rules for others to use if they wish.Best,
