  1. Both Hayward and Reno are within Oakland Center airspace. Depending on the altitude you are flying at, you could stay with OAK ARTCC (on various frequencies, as you cross center sector boundaries) or talk with one of the approach controls you mentioned. Here's a map of ARTCC's airspace boundaries.http://en.wikipedia....ile:Tfrmap.jpegAnd another - with RW radio frequencies...... most probably more then FS has for ZOA.http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=2236CheersGene
  2. With that explanation I'm sure you'll be getting that job offer from MS - they may even hire you directly into management..... :( I guess that if one isn't using one of the Acceleration 'features' in Win7-64, they would need to run the sim in 'compatability' mode - or maybe temporarily revert back to Win7-32. :( Gene
  3. What's funny is that - as you stated - they say it's not compatible with Win7 64 bit...... but that the Acceleration Pack IS compatible.http://www.microsoft...iving&os=64-bitHow did they get Acceleration to install in Win7 64 bit if it requires FSX to be installed first? Oh, and they also state that FS9 IS compatible with Win7 64 bit.http://www.microsoft...iving&os=64-bitProbably just another case of one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing..... LOLGene
  4. Thanks AlI think you meant ICAO instead of FAA. I'm using the FAA version and would like it to stay that way. However, you're reply got me thinking (I know... dangerous!). I opened EditVoicepack and found the phrase "Line Up and Wait" under 'Community Modifications', 'Phraseology', 'ICAO'. There are two different ones, listed as AC_TWR_POSITION_AND_HOLD and TWR_AC_POSITION_AND_HOLD - I export both to my Desktop. Then, I imported both to 'My Modifications', 'Phraseology'. I updated the Voicepack (careful to choose 'Change Settings', the speed option I wanted, 'Use FAA Phraseology') and Saved it. Opened FSX and it now says "Line Up and Wait' instead of "Taxi Into Position and Hold".Also did the same to FS9 using EVP 3.1I'm a happy camper!!! Thanks for your response! :( :( :( BTW - for those interested in why I wanted to do this.... the FAA changed from 'Taxi into Position and Hold' to 'Line Up and Wait' in September of 2010. For me, this make the sim a little closer to - 'as real as it gets'.CheersGene
  5. Has anyone one done an Edit Voice Pack mod to change "taxi into position and hold" to the new "line up and wait"? If so, is it available on the site and what is the file name? Are there any other phraseology mods available here? Thanks in advanceGene

  7. Thanks Joe!!! At least I can add the traffic files through the Scenery Library, instead of putting them in '...\scenery\world\scenery' with the default traffic file.Gene
  8. In an effort to keep my new install of FS9 organized, I would like to locate all of my AI aircraft folders outside of the default 'Aircraft' folder.I know I can do this in FSX - but is it possible in FS9? And, if so, how? Thanks in advance for any assistance!CheersGene
  9. Hi DaveI think I found what you may be looking for.....Click the down arrow just to the right of your username in the upper right corner of the screen Select 'My Settings' from the drop down menu Click on the 'Forums' menu item Look for the 'Topic Display Mode' item Appears that most (if not all) user account options are available via the down arrow next to your username.CheersGene :(
  10. I was fortunate enough to go on Friday and Saturday. My friend runs the transient ramp (where all the static aircraft were parked). On Friday, I got to ride around with him and watch his crew park many of the aircraft. And, got to talk with the crew of the Delta B757 - Breast Cancer Awareness aircraft. Best was getting to sit in the cockpit and talk with the flight crew!Saturday was good. Unfortunately, I was the only one under the B52 wing :( . Oh well, there's always the next show in 2 years.Having a sim setup in the hangar would be great. When there's another show at KMTC, I can provide a contact point for anyone willing to set one up.Gene
  11. Hi JimHope to see you there. Maybe some others will be able to come as well.I'm leaving in the early AM for DTW and won't have internet access while on vacation - but I'll be at the airshow on Saturday (with my wife's blessings, even :( ).CheersGene
  12. Attention Detroit Area SimmersThe bi-ennial Selfridge ANGB Airshow is the weekend of August 22 and 23. The headliners this year are the USAF Thunderbirds. More info on the show is available here: https://www.selfridgeairshow.org/If you're interested in meeting fellow simmers during this event, meet up near the starboard wing of the B52 around 1 PM Saturday. That aircraft should be on the static display ramp. If the B52 doesn't show (sometimes they will cancel last minute), meet at the west end of the static display ramp where it connects to the taxiway.I'll be in town on vacation visiting the wife's relatives. And I will be attending Saturday's airshow. Hope to see some of you there. If you are thinking of attending, please respond here.....CheersGene
  13. I'm just guessing here, but I don't think you get ANY special privileges at Avsim for donating to the cause. Well, maybe a hardy "Thanks!" :( Of course, you could always edit the image to reduce the size to be within the guidelines (rules). If you don't have a graphics editor, may I suggest you Google - irfanview - (it's freeware and quite versatile) and edit your VA's image. If my math is correct, that would leave you with an image 68 pixels in height (max height) and approximately 252 pixels wide...... still quite viewable and also within Avsim's rules. Cheers Gene
  14. Try pulling the Condition Levers (the ones on the right side of the throttle quadrant) back to somewhere between 'Low Idle' and 'Cut-off'. The closer to cut-off (without having the engines quit) the better. This will lower the engine RPM and aid in controlling the taxi speed.Don't forget to place the Condition Levers at 'High Idle' just prior to takeoff. And then, pull them back again just after exiting the runway (after landing). :( Gene
  15. Hi TomThanks for the information! I really appreciate you going the extra mile and posting the code and a link.Gene
  16. TomThe 'reload' gauge sounds interesting. Would you happen to have a link?ThanksGene
  17. >ok, so now how do we add 10/28 to the PMDG 737?>LVL-D has it, PSS has it but the PMDG 737 doesn't.>Haven't checked the 747 yet...>Thx,>-POr... click on the link in the first post (above), on the resulting page scroll down and click on "Product Updates". There is a file there that was uploaded today that will most likely fix the issue with 10/28 and the PMDG B737NG.Gene
  18. KLAS to KLAX is a pretty short route. From KLAS there is a DP with a HEC transition. And into KLAX there is a STAR with a HEC transition. Therefore, this route doesn't have any Jet or Victor airways.Let's look at KSEA to KLAX. I used Route Finder ( http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/ ) for this example. KSEA SID LKV J5 EHF STAR KLAXKSEA (0.0nm) -SID-> LKV (307.2nm) -J5-> HARTT (409.1nm) -J5-> PYRAM (467.0nm) -J5-> FMG (489.2nm) -J5-> TILTS (543.4nm) -J5-> SONNY (561.4nm) -J5-> TIOGA (585.7nm) -J5-> PINNI (654.3nm) -J5-> EHF (733.6nm) -STAR-> KLAX (832.2nm) ID FREQ TRK DIST Coords Name/RemarksKSEA 0 0 N47
  19. IDALE2 is an old RNAV Departure Procedure (DP). I believe it's been replaced by the BOACH2 RNAV DP.Your flight plan most likely starts:KLAS.IDALE2.HEC..RESOR..CIVETThe clearance would start:Cleared to Los Angeles via the IDALE2 departure, Hector Transition.....LODZY, IDALE, BOACH, RESOR, CIVET are intersectionsHEC is a VORTACMost of the time (in US airspace):-- 5 characters are intersections-- 3 characters are VOR or VORTAC-- 4 characters are airports-- 2 characters are NDBMany DP's use an intersection name followed by a number (IDALE2). The number (1-9 only) denotes the revision to the DP.Your FSBuild is probably using an older AIRAC cycle than your Level D. You may want to double-check that both FSBuild and Level D are indeed using the same AIRAC cycle.Hope this helps!Gene
  20. I was at ZLA (LA ARTCC) for a couple of years. Then transferred to the training department at LA TRACON for a year and a half. Left there to go back to flying airplanes.Unfortunately, don't do that anymore either....... :( :( :( Gene
  21. Although there will be exceptions (aren't there always) - for the most part KLAX uses the outboards for arrivals and the inboards for departures. This holds true whether the airport is landing west or east.So:25L/24R for arrivals and 25R/24L for departures when LAX is 'west'.7R/6L for arrivals and 7L/6R for departures when LAX is 'east'.Night operations (0000-0700 local) are a totally different matter. Arrivals are made to the east (usually 6L) and departures are made to the west (usually 25L). This pertains when the winds are below about 10 knots (regardless of wind direction) IIRC - it's the night 'noise-abatement' procedure.Qualifier: I spent about a year and a half working at LAX TRACON (LA Approach)back in the mid 80's.Also, just found this on the VATSIM ZLA site - http://www.laartcc.org/operating_procedure...ntrol+%28TWR%29Look under paragraphs 5 - d - 1,2 and 3.Gene
  22. FSNav to PMDG module is available right here at Avsim.http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=...hor=&CatID=rootCheersGene
  23. I'd be interested in knowing if it's possible to change the "N" number text color also. I've tried the above with no success too.Additionally, is it possible to not display the default MS "N" number on the aircraft and paint the "N" number wherever you want it to be? If so, will ATC use the listed "N" number in the aircraft.cfg file? Thanks in advance for any assistance!Gene
  24. Changing the gauge string from "PPH" to "pounds per hour" seems to give a reasonable FF rate - based on the fact that these are MS default aircraft. In testing:- On ground at idle thrust, showing 975 PPH/engine, 1950# total fuel onboard - engines flamed out (ran out of fuel) at 59 minutes 30 seconds.- In flight, FL350, showing 5000 PPH/engine, 10002# total fuel onboard - engines flamed out at 1 hour 0 minutes 15 seconds. While the fuel flow rates may not by exact (or maybe not even close) to the RW aircraft, at least the gauges now "appear" to show a somewhat more reasonable fuel flow - 975 PPH at idle versus 122.8 PPH at idle (same holds true in cruise).__________I'm still looking into the standby altimeter. No major breakthrough yet.__________The click spots for radio tuning do work correctly in the 2D cockpit. I'm not sure how to tweak the click spots in the VC without altering them in the 2D cockpit (at least I haven't been able to find a way). Maybe someone else can have a look and figure this out.Gene
  25. >> ...............>>***** Hi Chris>>>>Thanks for pointing out these two items. After looking at>the>>default ECAMS files, the FF data as "%" is easily changed by>>editing the appropriate BMP file.>>>>I think the fuel flow indicators are totally incorrect. It's>>not just a decimal point error. Obviously a fuel burn of>only>>122.8 PPH on the ground it way too low. But I thought that>>1228 PPH was a little too high. After looking at the ECAMS>XML>>file and referencing Arne Bartel's tutorial again, it>appears>>the "GaugeString" line referencing fuel flow in the>>"ecams.xml" file contains an incorrect parameter. I'm still>>playing around with finding the correct entry. So far I can>>get the FF per engine to 975.0 PPH (notice the decimal>>location) at idle on the ground at LAX.>>>>>Gene>>> I had mentioned the "backwards arrow" in the A321 and wrong>TAS in the 737 in my "Good, Bad, Ugly" thread. Others noted>you had fixed them.>> The correct fuel flow should be easy to set from the>appropriate XML A: fuel flow variable. However, I wouldn't>be surprised but what it shows too high in cruise (possibly>also a bit high in idle). Zero Lift Drag of the A727 and B737>are about 3X realistic at cruise Mach. >> The correct indication will drain the tanks in the>appropriate time. If there is 10,000 lb of fuel remaining, and>each turbine is using 5000 lb/hr then the tanks should run dry>in one hour. >> Ron>Hi RonThanks for refreshing my memory on your "Good, Bad, Ugly" thread. I had remembered reading about the B738 TAS and A321 wind arrow, but couldn't find your post. If it's okay with you, I'd like to credit you with finding these errors in the readme of my download (if/when I release an update). The fuel flow gauge string is as follows in the default:%((A:TURB ENG1 FUEL FLOW PPH, PPH) abs)%!5.1f! I can't find a valid reference in the "units.txt" file in Arne's tutorial for the second "PPH" in the above string. However, there is a "pounds per hour" reference. If I substitute as follows:%((A:TURB ENG1 FUEL FLOW PPH, pounds per hour) abs)%!5.1f! I no longer show an idle FF of 122.8, but of 975.0. This new value seems more plausible as it's in the same ballpark as the B738 at idle and 122.8 is way off. I still need to do more testing though over the coming weekend. I'll start by using your method above...Again, thanks for bringing to light the B738 TAS and A321 wind arrow anomalies.Gene
