Reality XP for F1 PC-12

Featured Replies

I have gotten totally spoiled by the Reality XP 430 GPS in the VC of the Duke. I want to enjoy that experience more. So far I have managed to get the XP GPS into the VC of a freeware Turbo Arrow. I am looking to put the icing on the cake with an aircraft with more speed than the Arrow and better STOL capability than the Duke. I notice the F1 Pilatus PC-12 has no 3-D knobs on its Garmin 430's, so I should have no problem swapping them out. However I am very confused by the differences in the Panel.cfg from the Arrow. Can anyone tell me what lines to mod so the XP 430 appears in the VC? Also, is it possible to have two XP 430's in one panel and have the second be Com 2/Nav 2? I see an option to have the XP GPS act as Com2/Nav2 but I don't see an entry for putting more than one into a panel. Finally, I wonder if it is possible to keep the MFD operational so I could have a workaround to fly a plan imported from the FSX flight planner.Thank you in advance...Robert

Hi Robert!Ok.. there's good news and bad news here... :( Good news.. yes.. it can be swapped for the RXP GNS430W... just edit the "Vcockpit2=02" section of the F1 PC12 panel config and swap the F1 GNS340 units with the RXP units. Now, for the bad news :( ...Unlike previously in FS9, the new Reality XP GNS430W (and the GNS530W) DO NOT talk to each other... meaning you cannot crossfill flight plans between dual units. In FS9, Reality XP had a "Pro" version which allowed you to have dual configurations (i.e. 430+430; 430+530, 530+530) that were "linked" together (datawise) just like the units in real life. When you entered a flight plan in one unit, you simply acivated the crossfill and it transfered the data to the second unit, thus allowing both units to be synchronized. It also allowed you to use the second unit as COM2.For whatever reason, this is not possible in the newer versions of the RXP GNS 430w & 530w. If you have dual units in a panel now, you have to manage each one separately.. adding the flight plan, managing procedures, etc. They just function as two separate units with no communication between them. Additionally, I'm pretty sure they both will act as COM1 radios :( Lastly, the F1 MX20 MFD won't read the RXP flight plans either... in other words, the RXP units do not talk to the F1 units, so that means that any plan you enter into the RXP GNS will not display on the MX20 MFD or in the EHSI of the PC12. There's no cross-communication between any of the units because the F1 units (430's & MX20) are based on the stock FSX GPS and the RXP units use the Garmin trainer database. You would ultimately have to create a flight plan in the FSX flight planner, load it, and then enter the same plan (manually) into the RXP unit(s) and manage them all separately. So... that's the scoop!Good luck with whatever you do!- Bonk

just edit the "Vcockpit2=02" section of the F1 PC12 panel config and swap the F1 GNS340 units with the RXP units.Thanx, I so many different entries in that .CFG where the F1 units are mentioned... now I should have a shot.Additionally, I'm pretty sure they both will act as COM1 radios :( Hmm... Maybe I will leave #2 F1 unit in...Lastly, the F1 MX20 MFD won't read the RXP flight plans eitherI pretty much figured that; I sometimes get FSX Flight plans through Messenger and then we take off right away on multiplayer. I could follow the FSX flight plan through the MFD till the last waypoint before destination and then enter a direct to on the RXP and let it take over on the approach. RXP includes a switch that lets you choose whether RXP or default GPS data is sent to the autopilot.Thank you very Much!!!Robert

In the RXP GNS configurator, you can select either COM/NAV1 or COM/NAV2 for each gauge.

Bert

Bert, could you please elaborate? I see that option in the configurator, and see where it says "Settings for unit 1", but how do I switch to "settings for unit 2?" Do I have to number the RXP GPS units in my panel.cfg? and if so, could I get an example of what the text should look like?Thank you..Robert

I only have the FS9 vintage 430s myself, and there you designate one unit to be 430_1 and the other 430_2.From the RXP support forum I gather that this support for dual 430s is not (yet?) offered in the newest release... so the configurator may in fact not offer you this option - sorry! Can you manually change the second unit to COM/NAV2 via the provided clickspot? This is not quite as elegant, but would at least get you flying until RXP comes up with an enhancement..
