Totally Confused

Hello fellow simmers, Do I need FSUICP and Sim connect? I am totally lost and confused about all this? I hear mention of SDK, Sim Connect, Acceleration Pack, etc. I would like to run Active sky and other programs on a network. What do I need for FSX to do this and do I still need FSUICP? One other thing can someone, in plain English, please tell me the current version and order of installation for whatever I need to do to achieve this. I would truly be grateful.RegardsPaul

Hi Paul - You do not need FSUIPC to network ActiveSky for FSX. You will need FSX Deluxe as you need the SimConnect.msi installer for your Client (remote, ActiveSky) computer to communicate with the Server (FSX) computer. Have Acceleration installed first then follow the instructions from HiFiSim who are the makers of ActiveSky. You will find all the setup info for FSX on page 49 in the .PDF manual: http://www.hifisim.com/ASAUserHome/Documentation/ASA.pdfYou will need to add your IP address by editing the SimConnect.xml and SimConnect.cfg files, you can find out what your IP address is by going to Start\Run type in cmd which takes you to the command (DOS) prompt. Type ipconfig and you will see your IP address... I do this on my Server (FSX) computer which works for me. You then have to configure your Firewall in the Exceptions tab you will click on "Add port" type in ActiveSky and add port number 500 and make sure the TCP radial is ticked. Do this on the Client computer as well following the same procedure. Follow the instructions and share the folders that need to be shared on your Server (FSX) computer, place the .ini, .xml files on the FSX computer and the .cfg file on your Client (remote) computer. That should be it, let me know if that works for you.Robert

While you don't need FSUIPC for ActiveSky's product what are the 'other apps' that you would like to run on a second PC? Some may still need FSUIPC to work correctly.

Hi Robert, Thank you again. I have just a couple of questions I would appreciate anyone answering:1. Do I need to buy FSX Accelerator? If so, where can I get it from?2. Is there a benefit to be had for the serious simmer, like myself? I am not interested in games as such but getting the sim as real as it gets.CheersPaul

Hi Paul - For networking, no you do not need Acceleration, all you need is FSX Deluxe which has the SDK's. Acceleration contains a few AC addons among other things and has the FSX Service Pack2 which alone enhances FSX. I think you can download the service packs from MS, you can find at Future Shop, Bestbuy, Circuit CIty etc... (not sure where you live). If you are interested in "as real as it gets" have you ever flown online using VATSIM? Now there is an experience, have a look at www.vatsim.net with that you can view your flight progress on vatspy or VRoute.Going to be setting that up soon so I can fly online once again. Let us know how you are getting on.Robert
