KSNA AFCAD

Featured Replies

Larger AI aircraft (737, A320, etc) at KSNA land on the smaller 19L runway, no matter where they arrive from they will not use the longer 19R. I remember from another forum awhile back that this was a known issue and possibly hard-coded into FS9. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I have tried a few things myself but to no avail.

I deleted it.

I haven't found a solution to it, although, I think it

If you have no objection to closing 19L/1R try the following. Use AFCAD 2.21 to modify your dominant or only layer for KSNA. List Runways, select 19L/1R, then properties. Close both ends for landing and takeoff. In View click on show Start Locations. In the image select each start location and delete it. Check the runway properties and start locations for 19R/1L to insure it is open on both ends and it has start locations.Save the file and close AFCAD.Start FS and it should reindex the scenery. Close it and start AFCAD again searching for KSNA. It should find a dominant layer with your changes. There should be no more than a default (stock) layer and one other. If so you have too many afcad files (only afcad files that show runways and taxiways count toward this maximum when viewed, not those with just a tarmac and airport center - these are special).I think this will close the runway to all AI.

I've closed the runway and no such luck, they still use it. This is the only airport I've encountered where the AI totally disregards a closed runway. I tried your suggestion of deleting the start locations and no change. I'm unaware of any effect that the runway start locations have on AI though as they really only pertain to the user aircraft.

What I would do is make two Afcads. One KSNA for the heavies with the longer runway and another 2SNA for the GA (avec le smaller runway).

I haven't experimented with overlay AFCADs in FS9, I did use them in FS 2002 to great effect. With FS9 utilizing more than one runway and the STAR method to activate crosswind runways I never really had the need. How well do they operate in FS9?

In FS9, only one true AFCAD containing taxiways, gates, etc., beyond the afd properties in the default scenery can be tolerated without unforeseen consequences. You can have overlay files with afd properties but these must be created with scenery utilities, not AFCAD itself. Among other things, AFCAD outputs scenery files with constant functions included that in multiple versions can confuse things. The AFCAD user can not control these functions. The bottom line is that for FS9 AFCAD 2.21 can not be used in the layering style used in FS8.It has been suggested that a more powerful scenery utility called Airport Design Editor released for FSX may be released for FS9. It is said to be fairly user friendly. I don't know if there will be an overlay capability with this or if it will be released for FS9.

You replicated the scenery but with a different AFCAD for each to connect them, right, but treating each as a separate ICAO ID for airport selection? If not, did you include both in the same scenery? If so, several posts are present about running duplicate afcads for the same scenery.

I'm pretty sure I did actually upload the Afcads for KSNA to avsim, I also use the two afcads for Duxford (grass and hard runway). :(http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...&hl=duxford
