July 14, 200916 yr yup - understand now ?FSAA was borked in some way on the GtX with FSXits not on the 4890and considerably smoother too - so win win So you couldn’t get AA to work with an 8800GTX “on aircraft themselves” but we are supposed to believe that this 4890 you now have is “magical” with FSX.
July 14, 200916 yr Yeah the price is NICE $250 bux!... two of those in crossfire would be enough for me I think. :)
July 14, 200916 yr I don't think you'll get any advantage in FSX with crossfire :(the Asus cards are nice as Asus provide a program to tweak the core voltage without voiding the warrantythat and on some forums people seem to be able to get more stable OCs at lower temps with the Asus - odd as it should be a reference design Yeah the price is NICE $250 bux!... two of those in crossfire would be enough for me I think. :)
July 14, 200916 yr yup - understand now ?FSAA was borked in some way on the GtX with FSXits not on the 4890and considerably smoother too - so win winOver the last two years I
September 6, 200916 yr Check this link for a great review: 4890 RoundupThe gist of the review is that the Sapphire 4890 Atomic can match and exceed the GTX 285 for less money. How about the new ATI HD 5870 DX11 card codenamed Cypress, which is based on the next gen 40 nm RV870 GPUand which (by all accounts) will be officially released on Sept. 10 ?http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15351/1/http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15287/65/http://www.semiaccurate.com/2009/09/03/and...s-shader-count/http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/...g-revealed.aspxAccording to the site "Bright Side of News" the HD 5870 will go on sale for $379-399 right after its introduction. Are the any preliminary benmarks available ? Will it match or even outperform an OC'ed GTX 285 at FSX ?
September 6, 200916 yr My system specs are in my sig. THe 4890 is an awesome card for the money. If your on a budget it is the card of choice. My intel system just doesn't seem as smooth as the ATI in most games. However, having said that, I find it interesting that the EVGA 275 FTW seems to keep up even with the mighty 285...Maybe a better choice for FS simmers than the ATI..Om the subject of Crossfire and FSX..I haven't really tried it without Crossfire enabled. I do know as far the ATI CCC software is concerned, it is running in Crossfire X mode. There is an option to show the crossfire logo in the game window when crossfire is working, and it shows in the FS window. Again, I really haven't tried it without crossfire. Those EVGA 275 FTW's are going for about 270 each, I may replace these 9800's with them :)Larry Larry Falcone No matter where you go............... ...................there you are............ September 10, 200916 yr This is my suggestion for a new card to be tried out on FSX, as soon as it will hit the stores:There are fresh rumors, that the ATI HD 5870 (aka Cypress) has been pictured.Article : Currently AMD invites selected representatives of the press in order to present their newest generation of graphic cards, the HD 5850 and HD 5870 series, which will be released at the end of the month.According to SemiAccurate the new graphic cards offer over 1600 stream processors. Trusted sources confirmed this feature and enabledus to have a closer look on the architecture of the cards. Actually AMD quite simply doubled the number of SIMD units from 10 to 20. Stillevery SIMD unit contains 16 5D units and a Quad-TMU. Overall: 1600 stream processors and 80 TMUs. 40 nanometres1600 SPs80 TMUs256 Bit GDDR5September 2009Based on equal clock frequencies the new models have theoretically twice as much shader and texture performance as the present HD 4850and HD 4870 series. Though increasing the power more than a 100 per cent will just be possible in a few cases, as the memory interface isstill restricted up to 256 bits. Nevertheless AMD improved the performance quite a lot and developed a remarkable graphic card series, which outclasses his older brothers easily. Hardware-Infos will provide further information about the HD 5850/HD 5870 soon.See also:http://www.hardware-infos.com/news.php?new...4&sprache=1http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/view_message/32550799http://www.overclock.net/hardware-news/572...0-pictured.htmlhttp://www.semiaccurate.com/2009/09/03/and...s-shader-count/
