VFR Photo Scenery

I see there's two different versions available for the UK: JustFlight & Horizon. Can anyone tell me if there's any difference in quality between them. It appears that Horizon give slightly better value with larger coverage areas, but that's all I know. Thanks

Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

Horizons image quality and colour matching is far better than JF's, many JF customers complain that their version is too green i.e. everything, including buildings in the images are a certain shade of green.

Cheers, Andy.

Most people seem to favour the Horizon one given a choice between the two. They essentially use the same photographic data, and there is not much to choose between the two as far as image clarity goes, but the colour differences are what tip the scales for most people. The JF stuff is not a bad product, it's just that the Horizon one is a little bit better on colour correction in most people's opinion. To some extent that does come down to what you personally prefer looks-wise and your specific need, so I guess checking out some screenshots of the two would be your best thing to do.I actually have the JF one, because I though that it was a better representation of a particular area in which I fly for real in the summer months (The Peak District), and I wanted it for visual references of specific turn points over Offerton Moor and Eyam, but overall I think if it were not for that particular need, I would say the Horizon one makes a better show of things.Al

Did Horizon ever get around to adding autogen? I seem to recall they promised an autogen solution a while back.

Well, both sites infact offer a free downloadable demo, and i've just tried them both. Albeit not a particularly good choice of area in my view - Snowdonia in Wales.I make all the above comments to be correct. In that, the JF product was a good improvement in reality, but I believe the Horizon version gives truer colours to and, though not sure how, slightly sharper definition. I also found the Horizon version to stay 'in focas' for greater distance.I believe there is much autogen in their v2 product. I've just ordered a DVD, so will see how it does.

Horizons version 2 of the scenery doesn't have any more autogen than the first version (i.e. none), but it does have a far better smoother terrain mesh and fantastic water masks which the JF version cant compare to. There is quite a bit of freeware autogen trees and add-on airports available in their forums and from various other locations, you are best registering at their forum and reading the myriad of posts over there about such things.

Cheers, Andy.

Hi Phil,There is also another option called Tileproxy that lets you download photo scenery for free from a virtual earth browser. This has been around for a couple of years now and it up to version 8. I found out about it after I bought the JF scenery. (I think what Tileproxy means for us is that we can have photo scenery for every country that is covered by a satellite for free providing we have enough HD space and no small download limits).I cannot comment on the Horizon scenery but I was disappointed with the JF scenery because I found there were no 3d buildings at all in London! I ended up buying VFR London as well to correct this. I am sure most virtual flyers would like to do a low and slow journey through London and check out the landmarks. Not sure why JF went that way, the major buildings are there in Tileproxy and other commercial offerings like the Taburet series of vfr cities. :(
