July 7, 200916 yr Hi all,I recently updated my PC to a;Phenom 2 9950 quad4 gig ram (XP32 bit only uses 3gig)MSI nVidia N260GTX video card.Even though the system has been designed for FSX, I still prefer to fly FS9 as most of the aircraft I fly haven't been made available in FSX yet. The following is the problem I have with FS9.My problem is, when I fly in the virtual cockpit, after a while, the cloud textures start to load up ground textures! Some of the ground tiles come up with cockpit tiles and when I go back to the 2d cockpit, I get a screen full of building textures!!!The computer then slows down, takes at least 10seconds to open up another flight sim window or change from full screen to window. Switching to windowed mode resets the graphics and all goes fine unless I start using the virtual cockpit again. If I fly in the 2d cockpit only, all is good.I have the latest drivers for the GPU and deleted the previous ones before installing the new ones.Has anybody else had these sort of problems with FS9?Cheers,N Nathan Ford (The Wonder Dog)

My first thought, did you add your graphics card yourself, or was it included on your system? For that matter, did you build your system or was it purchased from a known mfr. If so, what is the brand and model? Many store bought systems have onboard graphics. Quite often the onboard graphics are very poor, so users go out and add their own card--but don't disable the drivers for the existing ones. There's a lot of variables here, I think your best bet would be to ask the mods to move the thread to the hardware forum. I am certain this is not an FS9 issue, but one related to your hardware. Regards,John
July 7, 200916 yr Author The system was put together by a friend of mine who is a programmer that builds computer systems in his spare time.Am happy for the moderator to me me to where ever would be best. Am really interested if anyone else has had the same problem and what may have fixed it for them.Cheers,N Nathan Ford (The Wonder Dog)
July 7, 200916 yr I did a very similar upgrade to you myself a few weeks ago:-3.5 Gig of Corsair 8500 RAMGTX260-OC video cardE8600 Processor (Dual core Duo)Try running the benchmark software, 3DMark06 just to prove that you do not have hardware problems. July 7, 200916 yr Ok. A quick search has found that most of the 18x.xx series of drivers for the 260GTX have resulted in a lot of instability of the OS and games....so I would look at 178.xx drivers and earlier if you are going to get you driver from nVidia's site. I still think the best might to be to only use the driver supplied by MSI. It should be a stable build, since they are a reputable company and want their products to work well. I hope. July 7, 200916 yr all your issues point to a GPU overload problem. Likely cause could be either over-heating, or lack of enough Wattage from the power supply. You're seeing weird tiles and graphic problems because your GPU can't handle the load. It's not "dumping" previous tiles/textures and instead "giving up" and just loading whatever it can. How is the GPU cooled right now? Make sure the on-board fan is working...and that your case is over-all well cooled. You're statement about "it's all good when using 2D panels" doesn't seem correct...as i see weird tiles even in spot view. If the problem goes completely away when switching to 2d panels...then the cause could be something else.-feng
July 7, 200916 yr Author Thanks, will download 3dmark06 an see what happens.I have ordered a new Corsair TX-650 power supply.Temps are good, the Max GPU temp I've had when a problem has occured was 61c and the core and mobo max at 45 and 40c.I really have a feeling that it's the power supply not having enough amps on the +12v rail (mine only has 29a). The new one has 52a.Will have to see.I have also deleted the drivers, run driver sweeper in safe mode and reinstalled the latest driver, but still had the problem. Will try the new PSU then if that doesn't work, will try the driver that came from MSI.Thanks all,NUpdate... I scored a 12257 on 3Dmark06. It said I have succesfully run 3Dmark06. Nathan Ford (The Wonder Dog)
July 7, 200916 yr Author ....Sorry I wasn't that clear in my original post, the problems still exist in the 2d display once they have started in the virtual cockpit. If I look left or right, the anomaly is still there, but as new scenery start to load, etc, the anomalies stop loading. The sim still pauses when changing windows etc. It's only if I do a whole flight from the 2d cockpit that I get no problems. Once again I think it's an overload issue due to not having enough amps on the +12v rail. Will hopefully see when my new PSU gets here.N Nathan Ford (The Wonder Dog)
July 10, 200916 yr Author Went on a flight yesterday and was getting the same anomallies in to 2D cockpit too.It seems to happen around the same place, with urban textures. I think this is due to the high number of different urban textures used rather than the textures themselves.Once the problem starts, I have to do a re-boot to get rid of it (10+ second delays when opening new screens). Even if I close FS and restart, without reboot, the problems are still there.GPU running at max 55C so it's not an overheat problem.Just wish the delivery dude would hurry up with my new PSU.Cheers,N. July 16, 200916 yr Author Well I got my Xigmatek NRP-MC651 power supply which has 76a on the 12v rail, installed it all and blammo, I still have the same problem!!! Auggghhhh :( Does anyone have any ideas now???N Nathan Ford (The Wonder Dog)
July 16, 200916 yr Damn - that so annoying for you.Silly question, have you got the additional power connector(s) on the video card connected? It does look like either a power or heat issue and it sounds like you got the PSU covered. Do you have any overclock? Some drivers seem to have auto-overclock functions which might be causing problems - I know my ATI 4870 has this option- not sure if NVIDIA do the same.Good luck with it..James Well I got my Xigmatek NRP-MC651 power supply which has 76a on the 12v rail, installed it all and blammo, I still have the same problem!!! July 16, 200916 yr Author Thanks for your reply James,Yes I have both power connectors connected to two different +12V rails. The unit actually comes ready for the nVidia card. Will look into the autoclocking if I can figure out how. Hehehe. Thanks again,Nathan Nathan Ford (The Wonder Dog)
July 28, 200916 yr Author I have returned the card back to the manufacturer as nothing I did would fix this problem. Will keep you posted,Cheers,N :( Nathan Ford (The Wonder Dog)
