Panel size vs. Screen resolution

Featured Replies

I'm running X Plane V9.2 at max resolution but the instrument panels are not filling up the screen side to side, leaving a sizable gap (about 2 inches) on either side of the instrument panel where I can see outside the panel, scenery, sky etc...How do I enlarge the panels to stretch them from side to side and fill the monitor screen? :(

X-Plane does not stretch 2D panels (you get gaps on the side, but retain un-distorted instruments). The only "remedy" is to use aircrafts with Virtual Cockpits, or aircrafts which have a a 2D panel with a width equal or greater than the resolution you use.For example, the 2D panel of the default Piaggio Avanti has a width of 1600 pixels so you don't get gaps up to resolutions 1600 wide.Marco

In 3D you can increase the "lateral field of view" number to about 0.65 It is under Settings/Rendering Options.... lower leftThis is for versions 9.3x not sure about priors.Anything more than 0.65 I found makes the lensing effect way too obvious Otherwise what it does is curves things in just enough that you dont notice, and that you can view more of the VC..... maybe, or some other better reason.....Allen

Hi Jacob and everyone.Try to get us more specific information about the acft., mode VC/2D, resolution you use etc., for better feedback. In general what you can do, I do, in acft. that use the same panel for 2 and 3D, i.e. the free RV6 by Tkyler, RC Ver.9.2 is:Like in real life, I bring the view to where I see the Six pack only by:Using "Plane-Maker.exe" Background>Rendering Options.Increase Resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024, much better Panel readability / resolution.Standard/Viewpoint/Default/Viewpoint (1st column) adjust:Long Arm (I have 002.0), Lat arm (-001.0), Vert arm (001.7)Play with the numbers for different aircraft. Must Restart XP after these changes.Note: Not all acft use the same panel for 3 and 2D, but I think they all should, and you may have to do other adjustments, these should work with all 3D cockpits, post here if you have problems. Thanks all!I just found out that V9.30 will "stretch" the 2D panels to fit your resolution when it is released. SO for now I'll just look for 3D panels to fly. Thanks for all the help guys!
