How to add personal splash screen?

Featured Replies

I captured a screenshot with Screen Hunter, changed the file name to dglsplash.bmp, and added it to the Uires file of FSX. When I started FSX,however, the splash screen did not load. I have used different splash screens, other than the default, before successfully. What am I doing wrong and could anyone please tell me how to create my own personal splash screen? BTW, I have attached the screen capture I would like to use. It is a take-off from KLCW in a Foxbat. Thanks for any help. Bob K.

You need to make sure its the same dimensions as the original dlgsplash.bmp, and it also needs to be a 16-bit per pixel BMP file.Tim

Thanks Tim for the response. I hate to be a bother, but uh, how do I do or adjust the dimensions and how do I make sure it is a 16-bit pixel BMP. Bob K.

MS Paint will do the trick. But you will lose a lot of color.

Hi Bob,Right click on your picture and select Open With/Paint from the menu. If your picture is too big you'll have to resize it by selecting Resize/Skew from the Image menu and entering a percentage of its original size, say 60%. If your picture is not 800 by 602 then you'll have to select the cropping tool from the list of tools on the left. Move the tool to somewhere close to the top left corner of your picture, keeping in mind the desired dimensions of the result, click and drag the tool to the bottom right of the picture. If you look at the bottom right of the window you'll see the height and width of your selection, so it is easy to select the proper dimensions.Next, select Copy from the Edit menu. You then select New from the file menu, and paste your selection into the new picture. If your new picture is too big for your selection, you'll have to select Attributes from the Image menu and enter a Height and Width small enough for your selection; any small size will do since the picture will automatically resize when you paste your selection in.Finally, save your picture. After you've given your file a name and a location open the drop down box at the bottom of the dialogue and select 24-bit bitmap from the list of file types. Tim recommends saving the file as a 16 bit/256 colour bitmap but I've found that the 24 bit bitmap works okay. That's it! Good luck.

That window is slightly different than the rest of the UI so might take 24/32 bit BMPs, I know the rest of the MFC UI framework only supports 16-bit art (my 2D artist complained about it often enough :-> ).Tim
