Black and dirt water on landing
Everything was running just fine until suddenly when a land on water, it looks like I am landing on black rocky dirt and what is supposed to be water spray is black a blocky smoke that literally blocks out the visual of the aircraft until it settles. I also see black and blocky smoke on prop engine start-up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BobK

Brake sets itself randomly!
This is a brand new problem. When I start a flight, the brakes are set without any indication. If I manually set the brakes and then unset, all is fine. But,sometimes, and I mean only sometimes, when I land the brakes will have re-set and,of course cause the aircraft to nose over and crash! My joystick is the Logitech Force 3D pro, but I do not think that is the problem. I also have Ch rudder peddles, but, setting and unsetting the brakes via the peddles does nothing. I have to do that via the keyboard controls. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on and what could be the fix? Thank you, BobK

Aerosoft Twin Otter X, no 2D panel?
I don't know where else to turn but here. I purchased the Aerosoft Twin Otter X and installed. Everything in the aircraft folders seem to be there and O.K. But, all I have is the VC and I can not get any 2D view. I have other twin otter X add-ons from other authors and they all work fine. The importance of this is that I also purchased the mission pack for this aircraft and although I can use the other add-ons instead but, obviously, no reward can be obtained for completing the mission. No big deal but if anyone has any ideas what is going on, I would appreciate it. SimMarket offers no support and I was unable to get any support from the Aerosoft site. Thank you. BobK

Nick's lighting version 2
Can Nick's lighting package that he put out for FS9 be used in FSX;and,if it can, will it change the size of the daytime runway lights, too. Thank you for any help. I am basically trying to get my runway lights to not be so large as they look so unrealistic. BobK

FSX Blackhawk
I am really having difficulty finding an FSX Blackhawk helicopter add-on that flies realistically. Even the Abacus "try before you buy" flies like a fixed wing aircraft. Can anyone point me to an add-on that flies well? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. BobK

FSX default aircraft texture fixes?
Some time ago fixes to the default FSX aircraft were posted on Avsim forum. I have lost those downloaded files and can not find them through search. Can anyone please re-post or point me to the post? Thank you. BobK

Lost all roads, I mean all roads.
Thanks Al. I've tried what you have suggested but no resolve. I only have UTXUSA and yet I have no roads outside that area. GEX was only North America. I'll give your idea of re-config FSconfig and let you know. Bob

Lost all roads, I mean all roads.
I originally thought that my Gex update and my UTX USA had created a problem within UTX but after going on the GEX and the UTX forum I now realized I do not have roads anywhere in the world! What I have are faint indications of a road that many times are see through to earth textures,or something like that. Roads wil not appear with UTX enable or disabled. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? I used to have such beautiful roads. Bob Klein

Free video capture software?
BTW. Has anyone heard of or tried BBflashback? I found it listed as freeware at CNET. Bb K.

Free video capture software?
Thanks for all the suggestions and info, especially Chuck B. It looks like I will have to bite the bullet and purchase FRAPS if I really want to create a good quality video. What I am going to do is take-off from KLCW(which I have enhanced version of), fly the pattern and land. I did this when I took my first flight lesson. Thanks again. Bob K.

Free video capture software?
I can tell from U-tube fsx videos and from other posts here that FRAPS seems to be the preferred video capture software. does anyone know of a freeware software that can do a fairly good job of recording FSX outside of the game? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Bob K.

How important is FSUIPC4?
Wow! Thanks everyone for your responses and suggestions. To the writer who asked how can I run FSX without FSUIPC4 if it is in my Modules folder, here is the explanation. When I start-up FSX as it is loading, a window appears and asks me if I want to run FSUIPC4. If I chose "yes" another window appears and asks me if I want to run FSUIPC4 for this sesion only or do I want to run it for all sessions. I chose for only this session. Be that is it may, if I run FSUIPC4, is when FSX freezes. If I chose not to run FSUIPC4, all seems to be OK. I will run the scans suggested by the other writer and see what happens. I'll let you know if I am able to resolve the problem. I am probably not going to spend much more time on this as some of you have said I really don't seem to need FSUIPC4. BTW, FSX has worked well for me for years with the various versions of FSUIPC until recently. I agree that one or some of my files related to SimConnect must have become corrupt. Thanks again. Oh, I'm running on Windows XP. Bob K.

How important is FSUIPC4?
I posted here a problem I was having with running FSUIPC4 which would result in FSX freezing after loading a flight. All runs well if I do not run FSUIPC4. I was referred over to Pete Dowson's forum who has for a week tried to be helpful but to no avail. He believes it something to do with one of my SimConnect files not appearing or possibly corrupt. The last thing he has recommened is to do an uninstall and reinstall. I would like to avoid that;and, so that brings me to my original question. If all appears to be running well with my add-ons, GEX, and UTX, do I really need for some reason to run FSUIPC4 when I start FSX? Thanks for any response. Bob K.

No Water?!
Thanks for the response. I do have UTX. While waiting, I searched the FSX archive for "water" and found a post that suggested that I run restore to original UTX settings. I did just that and "Whalla" all is working fine and, in fact, better than before. I may do that every once in awhile as it did improve my FPS and reduced stuttering. Thanks again for responding. Bob K.

No Water?!
Help please. All I have now in FSX is land where there should be water. This happened to me a few years ago but I forgot the fix. I know, I know, I should save all fixes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bob K.

HELP!FSX Freezes Fixed
Well,I did all of what you suggested but FSX still freezes if I run FSUIPC. What am I missing if I don't run it at FSX start-up? FSX seems to be running fine without me running FSUIPC. Bob K.

HELP!FSX Freezes Fixed
Thanks for the response. I checked my FSX module folder and I do have FSUIPC 4.4 installed. Again, I do not understand how my problem was first created nor do I fully understand how it got fixed. When I checked the install history in the module folder, it seems upon the re-build, not only was the FSX.CFG re-built, but the FSUIPC was also. When starting up FSX,however, the program does not seem to recognize that and asks me again if I want to install it. When I accepted, then the program freezes when starting a flight. When I click "no", the program works fine. Possibly installing over an already installed FSUIPC creates the conflict. I really don't know. I'm just happy I am back to flying again. All seems well. Bases upon what I have presented, do you still recommend that I uninstall FSUIPC and do another fresh re-install? Bob K.

HELP!FSX Freezes Fixed
Although I had 39 views to my CTD post, I had no responses. Over time, however, I was able to fix the problem and thought posting that fix may help others. I learned from other posts how to delete my FSX.CFG and text file from my Documents and Settings, etc. file, restart FSX and allow it to rebuild those files. As FSX was loading, it would ask me if I wanted Acceleration to set my assignments(I do have Acceleration),I clicked "yes", and it asked me if I wanted to load the newest FSUIPC,to which I also clicked "yes". The fatal error message continued to occur. The most recent time, however, I just took a chance and clicked "no" to loading the most recent FSUIPC. Amazingly, no more fatal error message and all is well. I am not savvy enough to know why this fixed the problem, but I'll take the end result. Hope this is helpful to someone else.Bob K.

Fatal Error
When I start up FSX, all is fine until I click on "fly now". Even then all goes well until I am looking at my VC and down the runway. The engine is running. All of a sudden the sound goes out, the game freezes, and a fatal error occurred message appears. I am given the option of sending a report and/or restarting FSX. When I chose neither, I am taken back to my desktop. I guess this is kind of a CTD. I have upgraded my graphics driver, deleted my FSX.CFG, and restarted FSX. The problem persists. Does anyone have any ideas of what is going on? I would hate to start all over again. Thank you for any help. Bob K.

HELP! FSX Freezes?!
I've tried some of the suggestions and tweaks along with some tinkering of my own and my whole system no longer freezes. That is the good news. Bad news is that I still can not get past "fly now". I am now getting a Micorsoft alert that tells me, "A fatal error has occurrred". I am then offered to send an error report or not, and restart FSX or not. When I chose neither I am at least back safely on my desktop. Anyone got any other ideas. Oh, I updated my graphics card. Bob K.

HELP! FSX Freezes?!
I have recently added some add-ons but inspite of that everything was running smoothly. When I start FSX, select location and aircraft, and click-on "fly now" everything seems to be loading fine, and I am in the cocpit looking down the runway with engine running. Then, all of a sudden, the sound shuts off, and FSX freezes. I can not change views: and in fact, can not do anything. Even CTL-ALT-DEL does nothing. The only thing I can do is turn off my computer, wait a minute, and turn it back on. This problem is repeatable. I did delete my FSX.CFG and restart FSX, but the problem persists. Please, any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I would hate to start all over again if that can be avoided. I do not think it can be any of my recent add-ons as the game was running fine with them. BTW, I have tried to use system restore, but even if I go back as far as July, my system will not restore no matter what restore point I use. Thanks again for any help. Bob K.

Splashscreen randomizer
Does anyone know of a good splashscreen randomizer for FSX? Thanks for any suggestions. Bob K.
