August 3, 200916 yr Commercial Member Just wanted to say what fantastic fun I have been having flying the downloaded practice and competion missions from Top Gun simulations. using Dinos F-14 and the equally great stock F-18 model, the Nimitz and the fantastic voice and animations etc in these missions, its a completely believable recreation of carrier ops, the best I have come across so far in a sim, visuals etc all fantastic. If any of you out there have not tried these missions, dont delay!! These will really test your skills......I have one small question, I tried the inbuilt game recorder, but while it showed my plane perfectly, it did not record the Nimitz, so it looked like I was touchig down on the sea. Can this be fixed? cheers, Mark
August 10, 200916 yr I was wondering if this combination will work. I mean the Nimitz plus the topgunsim mission. What if the Nimitz is slightly higher or longer than the stock carrier, or if the wires are located slightly fore or aft. The topgunsim mission may be programmed to work perfectly only with the stock carriers. Can anyone elaborate on this?

August 11, 200916 yr Rob,The 'Missions' are part and parcel of FSX Acceleration and not found in FSX SP1. They are 'added on' when you install the Acceleration (SP 2) upgrade. The 'Top Gun' missions are payware, 3rd party, add on.For recording the missions, and have the carrier show up, try recording 'live' with Fraps (try 'half size' and '25 fps' in options). Can't be done otherwise as Nimitz is 'scenery' so instant replay will not 'see' it. May have to pull sliders back when doing Ops to keep FPS from tanking. AND, you can try using FpsLimiter for smoother FSX play and better sound. Fraps uses Core 1, and since FSX ONLY uses Core 0, the Fraps program will NOT load FSX down one bit and work perfect together.Chuck BNapamule

Napamule, how is the Nimitz classed as scenery and the stock carrier not? They both reside in the simobjects folder? Or does the stock carrier not record either? cheers, Mark

At first I got a "buy this domain name page", now I am getting this (below) Any news or ideas about what happened? -Scott Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. August 15, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Neutrino, there was a thread about 3 -4 weeks ago in which it was described how to make the nimitz the default carrier in FSX. Its a simple .cfg file edit, you should be able to find it if you search on USS Nimitz.....
August 15, 200916 yr Mark,The 'stock' carrier will not show in instant replay, either, if that is what you meant. Been busy with real life activity so installed Nimitz, but have not had a chance to use it yet. Default (stock) carrier is day/time dependent if you want to catch it moving, or parked for that matter. It's not at a specific, or permanent location like some carriers, like the Nimitz (which is 'parked'-making it convinient for locating and using).Chuck BNapamule

Its a simple .cfg file edit, you should be able to find it if you search on USS Nimitz.....Hi, thanks, this is what I thought, but wanted to make sure. I was planning to replace the default carriers with the Nimitz, I just wasn't sure if it will work properly in missions. As to your original question, there is no way to replay your landing on a moving carrier, exactly as it happened when you did it originally (only if you record it live with FRAPS, but you cannot change camera angles later). You can use a program called FSRecorder to record your flight. It replays the flight from within the simulator, so you can change camera angles and views. However neither FSX (instant replay) nor FSRecorder records boat AI traffic, i.e. they will not be able to record and later replay the moving carrier. What you can do is use FSRecorder to record your flight and then when you want to play it back you have to make sure there is a carrier in the same position when you started the recording. You can do this in two ways. One, you can save your game just before you start recording with FSRecorder. Then, when you want to play the recording, you first load the saved game and then play the recording. If the carrier was on a schedule (during a mission for example, or if you landed on one of the four AI carriers that move around in free flight) it will be there when you replay your flight. The second way is to use the aicarriers2 utility to place a carrier wherever you want, and then start the recording. When you want to replay, first use the aicarriers2 to place the carrier, then start the replay. Hope this helps...
