  1. Dino finally released his freeware T-45C :(The T-45C Goshawk is a heavily modified version of the Bae Hawk single engine jet trainer, adapted to aircraft carrier ops. The package contains an entirely new visual model, with self shadowing, bump mapping and hi-res textures, working virtual cockpit, 3D gauges, and improved flight model. Includes custom collimated HUD and sound package. You can read more on Dino's website - http://indiafoxtecho.blogspot.com/ - or download the plane directly from Avsim: http://library.avsim...xac&DLID=160445Trailer video: (Click for larger pictures)
  2. Hi guys, I made this short video featuring the upcoming new T-45C by Dino Cattaneo :) I hope it will be available to download real soon and I will try to post the link here as soon as it's released. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3XGOS0ZRz4&hd=1 J.R.
  3. George, you can purchase the SuperbugX directly from the VRS website as a download, this is the fastest option.
  4. There is something I forgot to put in the readme :( You can set the default values for some of the HUD and gun options in the 'FA18_HUD_Init.xml' located in <\Panel\FA18_HUD\>. For example HUD color, caged mode, baro/radar altitude, gun fire rate, etc. It can be edited in notepad. These settings can always be changed in flight from the HUD Switch Panel (Shift+2).
  5. Hi George, welcome to the forums. To fly the Superbug with all the functionality you may not need the Acceleration Pack/Gold Edition (as Samwise pointed they are the same, but obviously buying Gold is more cost efficient). However, as noted on the VRS website, the Acceleration/Gold is highly recommended. And yes, you can do the full Cold/Dark Startup with the VRS Superbug. Personally I very, very, very strongly recommend getting the Acceleration/Gold, because it is the best simulation of carrier operations ever made :( Actually this is the only reason I got into FSX :( Check out this carrier landing video, it is on Acceleration: ... and this one using the Superbug (again with Acceleration): Now, there is something I must clear, and I am sorry if you already know this. There are two different F/A-18s that you can fly in FSX. One is the F/A-18A Blue Angel jet that comes as part of the Acceleration pack. This is the one you see here on the dogfighting video (we usually refer to it as 'Acceleration Hornet'). The other is the VRS F/A-18E Superbug, which you must purchase separately and then add to FSX (which is very easy). Again, you probably know this, the VRS Superbug is a lot more detailed, realistic and advanced in terms of avionics, flight model, virtual cockpit and exterior, than the Acceleration F/A-18. Actually, according to VRS - the Superbug is "the most detailed and accurate simulation of a combat aircraft ever developed for Microsoft Flight Simulator".I hope this helps,JR
  6. Sure, you don't have to shoot anybody to fly the Combat Hornet :( There is so much more functionality built into the HUD, you can also try an aerial refueling, but it's best to have a KC-135 with a refueling boom. And of course it's a naval aircraft, so you just have to land it on a carrier :( It should be much easier with this modification because with manual flaps control, you can fully extend the flaps (the default auto flap logic didn't allow this), which will lower the landing approach speed by about 9 kts, and you will have a more gentle deceleration because of relaxed wire tension (the default was too tight, and you stopped as if you are crashing into a brick wall and the aircraft sometimes would flip over because of the momentum).
  7. Hi guys, I've been working on adding guns A/A mode to the Acceleration Hornet, and it is finally ready. I packaged it as a standalone aircraft (F/A-18 Combat Version). This 'Combat Hornet' is equipped with 20mm M61 cannon and has a fully functional air-to-air gun mode found in the real F/A-18.See the Combat Hornet in action here :( From the two radar modes, the two gun sights and the flying tracers (with precise ballistic trajectory), everything you experience in the virtual cockpit should be very similar to what you would experience in the real cockpit. You will not be able to shoot down other aircraft, but you will receive an immediate indication on your HUD if a shot was successful and a bullet hit the bandit. The flight model is unchanged from the Acceleration Hornet except for allowing manually controlled flaps and reducing the arresting wire tension for smoother carrier landings. The HUD is an upgrade of the Realistic Hornet HUD by Jivko Rusev and Scott Printz, which allows ILS and TACAN navigation for aircraft carriers. You will also get a couple of additional gauges - an In-Flight Refueling Gauge, PLAT Camera and a Carrier Landing Gauge. You can find a full description of the features and documentation (including Air-to-Air Guns Manual) in the package. The aircraft can be downloaded here:http://www.simviatio...le?fileId=34548Enjoy :biggrin:J.R.
  8. Yes, a little disappointing :(
  9. That would be cool, but I don't have it :(

  12. @pb3p0:1) Autopilot works, but you have to click the yellow 'AP' button on the cockpit panel. Then open up the autopilot gauge with Shift+5 (you could also activate the AP by pressing 'A/P' on that gauge). For altitude hold simply press 'ALT' and adjust the numbers with the mouse wheel. For airspeed hold, first press 'AT' (autothrottle) and 'IAS' on either panel and again adjust the speed. Similarly for heading press 'HDG'. In the screenshot below the aircraft is on autopilot holding altitude 1500 feet, speed 250 kts and heading 330 degrees:2) Set flaps manually as required. If you want you could enable autoflaps from the aircraft.cfg but being able to manually extend them is much more flexible and accurate IMHO.3) The drogue is always extended in this model for two reasons - first, in mutliplayer you cannot see animations in other aircraft unless you fly the same aircraft, so if the drouge is extened in flight by the player flying the tanker you won't see it - therefore it is built into the model; second - you can do an AI flight plan and you don't have to concern yourself with the drogue as it will be extended. Only disadvantage is that it will be also extended on ground.Hope, this helps :(
  13. There is a new KC-135T Stratotanker with NAVY drogue (basket) for FSX that you can download from here, it's the best to refuel and easiest to install in my opinion:http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARC...navy_drogue.zip
  14. There is a very nice tutorial how to create flight plans with AI Flight Planner on the VRS forum: http://forums.vrsimulations.com/forums/php...p;t=3136#p23221
  15. Mark, there is lots of information about creating and editing missions in the SDK. Some of the default missions (such as the Carrier Tutorial mission) are in xml files so they can be studied or modified as well. However I wouldn't go that way. I think the best solution is creating AI flight plans - I haven't done it but I think there are lots of freeware tools that help you create such plans. Perhaps someone else can share some knowledge. Once you know when and where will be a tanker (or any aircraft) you can save a flight at that location and time.
  16. Actually, the mission system is pretty flexible and you can make some really nice refueling missions - with calls from the boom operator for example etc. There are at least two refueling missions that I know of - one is the Carrier Practice mission, where there is a tanker when you climb above 10,000 feet, also the Multiplayer Carrier Nimitz mission by Orion Lyau - it also has a tanker. Still the mission system is limited in that you can only refuel if you play the mission - this is why we wanted to do this refueling gauge which allows refueling in free flight. Of course it would be nice to have some AI flights with the KC-135 or you can record one yourself with FSRecorder.
  17. Yes, when you get into position you will start getting fuel. If you deviate too far off the boom, the refueling process will stop but will resume when you get back.
  18. I am sorry - you are correct! I was thinking of another KC-135 where the boom was slaved to the landing gear but it only had a boom not a drouge. So the one from the link and the video indeed has the drogue always extended. Still I think it is the better choice for creating flight plans as it looks more realistic with the drogue.... I added a link at flightsim for the gauge as alternative to simviation.
  19. Thanks, Edmundo! I use "KC135RT Fixed Drogue" from the two models provided at the link above - it can be used for creating AI flights as you don't have to manually extend the boom - as soon as the aircraft takes off - the drogue extends automatically. A package with some tanker flights will be really great, because the alternative would be to search for random traffic or create one yourself. Also, it is a good idea to include the tanker as part of the package so that everyone has the same model. The one from the link requires a small adaptation to work in FSX - like rename a folder and delete a couple of FS2004 gauges - but it is the best one from all the tankers I tested!
  20. Hi guys, I have been working on an In-Flight Refueling gauge recently and it is finally ready. The gauge can be installed on any aircraft and allows refueling in the air from any aircraft - in free flight or multiplayer. Andy Niko is the co-author of the gauge - without him I wouldn't have come up with the idea and the improvements that came in the development. This is a short demo video of an in-flight refueling from a KC-135 Stratotanker, where the gauge is integrated with the improved Acceleration Hornet HUD: The gauge can be downloaded here:http://www.simviation.com/simviation/?ID=8924or here:http://flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&a...e=ifr_gauge.zipThe KC-135 from the video can be downloaded from the link below, it is for FS2004 but it can also be used in FSX:http://flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&a...me=KC-135T2.ZIP
  21. You can use the PLAT camera to review your flight if you record it with FSRecorder. However, this is only possible in a mission where you have the PLAT camera view coded into the mission. In multiplayer mode, you cannot record with FSRecorder, so only other people can watch your approach, or you can watch their approach and give them directions. I did this a couple of days ago when we were testing the mission - I was watching through the PLAT camera and I felt that the guy on apporach was very high, so I said "Wave off!" and he actually did - it was pretty fun :) Orion's mission is usually hosted in the Adventurer's Lobby in the multiplayer section - it's less croweded than the Free Flight lobby :)
  22. Orion Lyau has just released his new Multiplayer Carrier Ops - Nimitz mission for FSX Acceleration :( The mission is a result of a couple of months of work and testing, and we can finally use Javier's Nimitz in multiplayer and fly carrier ops :( The new mission features:- The beautiful USS Nimitz carrier by Javier Fernandez- The carrier is moving and all systems are working - the meatball, catapults and arresting gear are fully operational in multiplayer.- A Boeing 737 refueling tanker- A P.L.A.T. camera view where you can watch the aircraft landing on the carrier and provide LSO communication- You can use the new Hornet HUD to track the carrier ILS and TACAN for precise landing and night operations. The mission can be downloaded here: Multiplayer Carrier Ops - NimitzHere is some footage from the tests we made prior to the release, bloopers were left out :( And some screenshots:
  23. Hi guys, the new HUD adapted to Dino's F-14D Tomcat can be downloaded here:http://www.simviation.com/simviation/?ID=7302J.R.
  24. I am glad you found it, I was just about to ask what is "Francis X's Carrier" :( J.R.
