August 11, 200916 yr Hey guys, When installing certain WOAI flightplans I notice that some airports have the ICAO code but no Airport - Place - Country information in the 'Expert Section' when viewing the particular flightplans Airport info. Also while using ACA 2005 and using the Flightplan Timetable Section I get an Unhandled Exception message saying Column 'To' does not allow nulls. This usually occurs if the timetable I'm serching has one of these Airports which lacks the above information within the plan!My question is simply how can this information be added to FS9 and the particular flightplan in question?Cheers in advanceFox
August 11, 200916 yr Hey Fox, do you know have one in particular that's been doing that? I wonder if it's one of those single leg flight plans. The link below is pretty thorough in case you're ever interested in reading how flight plans are broken out...Markhttp://www.john-goodwin.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/page4frame.html
August 11, 200916 yr Thanks Mark but I'm ok in relation to compiling my own flight plans. My problem relates to the WOAI flightplans I've already downloaded and installed.I need someone to tell me how I can enter the missing information as mentioned above. I know an extreme amount of hard work goes into the building of these plans by the guys @ WOAI but it's very frustrating when this information is omitted and I don't know how to enter it myself! Not sure whether the problem is because my FS9 installation doesn't have the information or it's left out by the guys who compiled the plan!! :( Either way I need answers and hope that someone out there has them.Cheers Fox
August 11, 200916 yr Don't think you can blame the WOAI guys on this one since that data is not contained in the flightplan. Or should I say it is not visible if you decompile the flightplan with Traffic Tools.I believe the installer finds this info in a file named FSAirports.txt located in the same folder as the installer. I would look at that for a specific airport that does not contain the info you are looking for. The file can be opened and edited with notepad and you can search by ICAO code to find a specific entry.I suspect the airports in question might not have been set up for AI originally in FS9.BTW, does anyone know if there is a way to update this file without having to manually edit it?Hope this help and keep us posted,Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
August 12, 200916 yr Thanks Joe, this is progress! I will have a go when I return home tomorrow and let you know how it goes!Fox
August 15, 200916 yr Hi Joe, tried your suggestion of editing the FSAirports.txt file and this works a treat. I now use the same FSAirports.txt file in both WOAI and ACA2005 and this has solved the missing information problem, no more unhandled exceptions with certain flightplans once I edit the info in. The fiddly bit is locating the airport that belongs to ICAO but I managed to find a good website for that! :( Many thanks for your help.CheersFox

August 18, 200916 yr Yeah, I asked Fox to maybe let us in on which flight plans he was having issues with so we could all know. Maybe he was having the same thing happening with a bunch of them and that's why he didn't tell us?Mark
August 19, 200916 yr Hi Guys, I'm currently in the process of updating the FSAirports text file fully, which is becoming a long drawn out job. There are a number of WOIA flightplans which have the information missing (Airport - Place - Country). If you download Air China for example then nearly ALL the information is missing!!They are mainly countries like China, Angola, Russia but airports such as Doncaster EGCN are also missing! The reason I'm doing this is mainly to stop the problem with ACA2005. If the information is missing within a flightplan and I try to run a timetable which contains this flightplan info I get an unhandled exception and have to close, very annoying. I've noticed that by manuaaly entering the info (Joes Idea) it stops the problem when I run ACA2005!Cheers Fox
August 19, 200916 yr Thanks for that Fox! And a big darn....I was going to try to swoop in and help if I could. The last couple of weeks I've been rewriting an MS Access AI Flight Planning database of mine into a freeware C# version. Thought that I might be able to test it with the issues that you've run into. Darn, but good. I'm glad that you've got it under control :)Mark
August 19, 200916 yr Under Control!!! :( Yes Mark I'm gradually getting there but it's very time consuming and I'm slotting it in between my other duties! :( Fox
August 19, 200916 yr Sorry but I'm having difficulty understanding the problem, maybe 'cos I dont use woai. Surely the fsairports.txt file doesnt contain info about the airport name, country, region etc?I've recently written a prog to automatically generate loads of AI GA flight plans via a simple wizard interface (takes only seconds to write hundreds of random flights from your chosen base airport), and as I needed the above info have now gathered together a file with all this info. In fact it has about 500 more airports than fs!!! Not sure what format you need, but when I finish tidying the prog and release, this list will be included - in text format (not fsairport.txt format though)Dave
August 19, 200916 yr Hi Dave, are you talking about the Airport file located in Traffic 2005? If so this is a completely different file. The file I'm refering to is located in the WOAI folder and states the Icao plus Airport - Place - Country. If your not using WOAI flightplans and only FP's you've either made or downloaded from PAI or AIG then the problem does'nt occur! Fox
