August 15, 200916 yr Good evening I was wondering if someone out there could give me some serious help?I am trying to enter the following route using the FMC and the help guide on "http://ops.precisionmanuals.com/wiki/FMC_WP_Entry_Notes#Short_Form"the route is as followsQFA107 from YSSY-KLAXNOBAR A579 JORDY 3200S 15500E 2900S 16000E 2715S 16300E 2600S 16500E 2300S 17000E 2000S 17500E 1600S 18000E 1100S 17500W 0834S 17233W 0600S 17000W 0500S 16910W 0000N 16500W 0600N 16000W 1200N 15500W 1800N 15000W 2300N 14500W 2600N 14000W 2900N 13500W 3100N 13000W ELKEY C1318 LAX and some how i am 28 thousand miles off course any help would be greatthanksIan Snow
August 15, 200916 yr Put the ND display in PLN mode, put the CDU in LEGS page, and step through each leg of the flight plan looking for the error on the ND. Dan Downs KCRP
August 16, 200916 yr Author good afternoon thanks for your help i have followed your advice and now i am off 8 grand on one legI am having trouble with the following position 2900S 16000E according to the wiki help section the entry should be 29S16but it is a sharp left 8 thousand miles this is what i think the route should be entered on the FMCNOBAR A579 JORDY 29S16 27S63 26S65 23S17 20S75 16S18 11W75 08W72 06W70 05W69 00N65 06N16 12N55 18N15 23N45 26N14 29N14 29N35 31N13 ELKEY KLAXbut that throws me off by a ton any help would be greatthanksIan Snowa3ifs40
August 16, 200916 yr I spotted your mistake right away because I've done it. Look again at the shortcut format:S75 00/W170 00 = 75W70S07 00/W120 00 = 07W20Therefore, 29S 160E becomes 29E60. You drop the one, not the zero. Dan Downs KCRP
August 16, 200916 yr More correct would be :- NOBAR A579 JORDY 32S55 29S60 (2715S 16300E - MANUAL INPUT) 26S65 23S70 20S75 16S80 11W75 (0834S 17233W - MANUAL INPUT) 06W70 (0500S 16910W - MANUAL INPUT) 00N65 06N60 12N55 18N50 23N45 29N40 29N35 31N30 ELKEY C1318 LAX You seem to be using the 1 of the 3 digit longitudes instead of leaving that one off - The manual inputs wouldn't compress in the fms so you'd have to use the long form for those - depends on which fms you use as to the format (whether you add 2 decimal places it seems). Well, I hope it's right lol.John Ellison
August 16, 200916 yr Author OK thanks for all the helpit worked finally one question should i need to load 370 thousand pounds of fuel because that is what the FMC is telling mealso my ZFW can't be any higher then 500?thanks again for everyones helpIan Snowa3ifs40
August 16, 200916 yr I think ZFW is 535000, per limitations in the manual but the load manager actually indicates 542500. There is a reason for this difference but I don't recall it.The FMC in the 747 is not the best way to plan fuel, but if you have winds for the entire route it's workable if you have reasonable contingency allowances. You should try using the method in the manual a couple of times to become familar with the determinants. Dan Downs KCRP
