August 25, 200916 yr I posted a question like this in the FS9 forum but have not received a solution that is working as of yet. So I thought I might try a similar question here in case someone else knows the solution.I'm running a Radeon 4870X2 in 1920x1200 and in High Color mode, (not True Color). My monitor is a Syncmaster 243T and the refresh rate is set to 75hz. The system is having refresh issues that manifest in 3 places and seem to exhibit the same behavior...namely, FS9 dialog windows are loosing their bitmaps. For instance, if I press F10 to display the kneeboard, it will appear for a second and then a complete screen refresh occurs and the screen goes black. When the display comes back after the refresh, the kneeboard is completely black with no skin or controls visible. The only way I can see any of the controls is to do a mouse over and they come back one by one as the mouse passes over them.Anyone know a solution to this? Please advise and thanks!MarkWindows XP SP2 (Automatic Updates Disabled and Never Have Been Enabled)Samsung Syncmaster 243T @ 75Hz, 1920x1200Radeon 4870X2Driver Packaging Version 8.541-080923a-069992C-ATI Catalyst
August 26, 200916 yr Author It is ATI Catalyst A.I. that is causing the issues. I disabled it and my dialogs appear normally again! So is Catalyst A.I. important to FS9...does anyone have any recommendations? Mark
August 27, 200916 yr Catalyst A.I. is required to be enabled in order for Crossfire to function. Of course, no MSFS game utilizes multi-GPU technology so disabling Crossfire might not be a bad idea. Turning off Cat. A.I. is not the best way to achieve this however as you'll also disable useful application optimizations which help deliver better performance in applications for which the driver has a profile. You can disable Crossfire in the Catalyst Control Center without needing to resort to disabling Cat. A.I.
August 27, 200916 yr Author Hey Techguy, thanks for the response. I'm not sure why you think I have crossfire on my system. I have a single 4870X2 card, does that mean that it's being used in crossfire mode? So it's clear that I'm not sure how to proceed...I don't even have a crossfire screen or option in my CCC. Mark
August 28, 200916 yr im having similiar problems with the GTX285 using TH2GO and 3 17" LCD monitors, now that i have turned on Vsync and Triple Buffering, it has helped alot althought the problem does appear from time to time,i initially thought it was a faulty GPU but i seem to doubt that now. August 28, 200916 yr The 4870X2 has 2 GPUs on it. It uses Crossfire. Anyway, stop running your LCD @ 75Hz. The vast majority of LCDs are designed to operate at 60Hz and I suggest you give that a shot.

August 28, 200916 yr Author Thanks Red, thanks Techguy...appreciate the help. I checked the specs on my old Samsung and it is native at 75hz. I found a setting in CCC and noticed that it was running FS9 at 60hz and my desktop at 75hz. Now that change didn't improve the shimmering that I have been experiencing but man my video has really been accelerated. The whole system in fact. With both Catalyst AI disabled and running FS9 at the same speed as my desktop, I'm pushing 30-35 FPS at major airports. I still don't understand the bit about the cross fire mode on a single X2 other then, if you say it is using it, I believe you. If someone gets the chance, maybe you could clue me in as to what I have to do in order to test it.Mark
