Panel Editor - Aircraft .cfg files

Featured Replies

A small black window has appreared on my PSS 777 panel, No doubt I caused it, fiddling with the script. This window refuses to be deleted, if I try to move it to a remote corner the thing simply replicates it self :)Someone suggested a 'Panel Editor' - I've never heard of one?Ken

Is it about the size of a gauge or perhaps an icon?Check the modified dated of the panel.cfg in the panel section of the aircraft folder. See if it matches other items. There is a payware panel editor I have used many times. I displays the main panel window and sub-windows as you choose them from a "window" list of the aircraft you are working on. You can add, delete, move, and resize gauges from various FS file folders. You see these gauges as you place them either directly or with place markers (the rectangle outline with drag/size markers). It also connects to your image editor if you need to modify the background texture. While available on CD I recommend the download as it is easier to upgrade. The developer page is at fspanelstudio.com where you will find a demo version. The manual is at:http://www.fspanelstudio.com/buy.htmI have an account at flight1.com, whose installer they use, so it makes key recovery easy although I always hard copy it and also place the installer and a text copy of the key on my own CD as a backup. It was the first utility for FS I purchased and using freeware gauges from other aircraft or downloaded freeware gauges and some payware gauges I customized quite a few of panels to extend functionality. Some people edit the panel.cfg with a text editor but reloading the aircraft to see effects of change is very time consuming.Check out the description of the product and screen shots and if useful it might be worth the $25 download fee. It is not a huge download file. The flight1 installer is a two step process. In the first step you download a setup file, execute your purchase, and a key is delivered via e-mail. You run the setup file, enter your key, and an install folder is created complete with a stable copy of the license that you can burn to CD as a backup should you need it.Try the demo to see if it can spot your blank window if it will at least read and display them. You probably cant save anything with the demo but it might give you a clue.

I have had the little black box as well.It occurs when i am installing third party gauges and i think its something to do with forgetting to add the window that goes with the gauge or disabling a gauge by mistake.I haven't explained this very well, but it is usually easy to fix.Andy

You could always reinstall the PSS that would restore the panel to its original state.Andy

This little black box, usually bottom centre, is caused by having a windowXX= statement in the [window titles] section of the panel.cfg, for which you haven't specified a [windowXX] section below it. For example if you have put in an extra [window12] section in the [window titles] list for another pop-up window but have forgotten to include the actual section itself, then you'll get the little black box. Just check this list against the sections you have, and you'll find the culprit.;)
