Start Locks

Recommended Posts

Sander,The start latches won't be affected by power lever movement when the engines aren't on. Ground start position is what the AOM says it is. During start, when RPM is increasing and you get enough oil pressure to make the oil pressure CAP light to go out, you should see the green BETA light come on.You can visually check to see that the start latches are engaged before engine start. If they are, the props will be in fine pitch. If they're not, the props will be feathered. To put feathered props onto the start latches, you'd use the unfeather switch. (VC Power lever fully back against the aft stop, actuate the switch, watch the blades go to fine pitch, then move the power levers to ground start position.)Otherwise, you're on the right track.

Kurt,Allmost there, I guess. The words "Feathered" and "Fine Pitch", does that mean "not flat" and "flat" propellor position? (sorry if i am supposed to know that, but my english is a bit rusty)Thanks,Sander

Sander,When the props are feathered, the edges of the blades are towards the nose and tail of the airplane. When they're in fine pitch, the flats of the blades are towards the nose and tail of the airplane. (The purpose of feathering the prop is to reduce drag if you shut down the engine in flight.)
