Two FS9s on one computer (different HDs)?

Featured Replies

For some testing reasons I would like to install a second copy of FS9 on my machine. Would that work? I am afraid of some confusion for example of the fs9.cfg file, of the registry, etc.Any ideas or experiences?ThanksChris

Hello,

Two FS9s on one computer (different HDs)?
Can you be more explicit about the "different HD's" ?Second HD like a slave to the master ... or the second HD have also OS installed and proposed as choice when booting ....Regards.bye.gifGus.

All I can say is good luck and have fun... :( It's already a nightmare with FSX and FS9 on the same computer. Yes you can get the two to run but watch out if ever you end up having to uninstall either sim for whatever reason. :(

Hello Chris. It's very easy ,I have done it .You can do into the same HD or 2 HD.You copy your entire FS9 to an other folder on same or other parttion or HD.Then you rename the new FS9.exe to for exemple FS9B.exe .Then make a shortcut for this FS9B exe to run that new FS9B.It will build a new FS9B.cfgIn the same folder you will have FS9.cfg and FS9B.cfg .You can twick this new FS9B.cfg as you want.I have done that :One "clean"FS9' first install) to fly on IVAO or VATSIM And one "test" FS9B to test new airplanes, sceneries ,twicks,... and then copy to my clean FS ...You have all flights in the same folder so keep the same default flight for the two FS9.Another possibility :In the same FS9 folder if you want just to twick FS9.cfg file you can copy FS9.exe 2 or 3 times and rename FS9C...FS9D...exe and make shortcuts to run each version. This is nice to test and change some values in FS9.cfg I have no experience with add-on programs running with FS9 only FSMetar which is recognize by FS9 and FS9B.exe.You can copy FSuipc and FSNav in modules folder....Hope this help you.regardsFrancis (sorry for my very bad english)

I have three separate installations of FGS9, two on the same external hard drive and one in my computer's primary drive. I've not encountered any problems.

Mmmm, hardly a nightmare. Only remember to save your registry of FS9, cuz FSX uninstallation deletes both. Did it many times already, as I was testing something with FSX, but not using FSX.

Hello, Chris asks for FS9 not FSX .With FS9 there is no problem at all to copy FS9 2,3 ,or more and use to test or to configure different sceneries. For FSX I don't know.I use a FS9 with older planes sceneries and AI traffic from :http://www.calclassic.com/only two things keep Cessna C172 use on default flight at install ,you can delete all the others.rename each new FS9.exe (FS9B..FS9classic...FS9military.....). To desinstall you can desinstall the primary FS9 by windows desinstallation and delete (or keep !) others copies. If you are perfectionnist you can use CCleaner registry next.regardsFrancis
