PMDG J41 and ASA compatability...?

Featured Replies

Does the new PMDG J41 work with ASA or does it suffer the same problems as the MD-11 in ASA?Thanks!

Funny, I was just about to post on this...If you're referring to unusually high temperatures aloft issue, I haven't seen it in the JS41 like I have in the MD11.However, has anyone noticed that with ASA, controllability in the aileron axis is rough? The thing wants to roll over on it's back in either direction...I find it very difficult to maintain control. FYI - No AI and no online flights so far, so I don't think it's wake turbulence... however, I can't say that it's disabled in ASA.Thoughts?

I started out with the J41 using ASA although I have Rex2.0. ASA seemed to work fine with no controlability issues. (Although my Wake Turb setting in ASA is turned way down) In the begining I liked ASA for the J41 more than Rex and only because of a few points.. 1. ASA has the cool FSS function which will allow you to simulate picking up enroute weather without cheating and looking at the weather map.2. ASA has a bit more control in setting up cloud layers and I felt that REX depicts the weather with too much Cumulus Clouds and not enough Stratus clouds to be entirely realistic. Then after a few runs with ASA I realised that the Adiabatic lapse rate is kinda screwed up. Meaning, that temp should decrease at a rough rate of 2 degrees C per 1000 feet altitude and ASA has the lapse rate at roughly 1-1.5 per 1k feet. This was giving me icing conditions much higher than they should be.So now, I am running The J41 with Rex...LOL, to answer your question, ASA runs fabulous with the J41 and I have no major complaints.JB

PMDG products have a history of problems with Active Sky. It's because of the winds aloft in FSX. The wind smoothing feature in Active Sky doesn't fix these problems. The only real fix is the wind smoothing features in the registered version of FSUIPC.Rick
