Cannot load saved flight - Weird problem

Featured Replies

I just experienced a weird problem I have had over a period of many years with successive version of Flight Sim as follows:When clicking a saved flight to load it, nothing happens; I just get kicked back to my existing flight whatever it is. So the saved flight I wish to load does not load and never can load.I have had this issue over the years but with seemingly random saved flights. I save everything the normal FS way and write in a DESCRIPTION. It works 99% of the time and I have saved thousands of flights and reloaded them successfully. But once in a while, I am unable to load a saved flight by clicking on it the same way as I do with any other saved flight. At one point I thought I'd pinned this down to writing in an equals sign in the DESCRIPTION field (and this did seem to be a problem), but that does not apply in this case where there is no equals sign.I am stumped. Does anybody have a clue how to fix this kind of perplexing situation where every rule was followed but the odd saved flight does not load? Thanks!JS

What happens if you do not write a description? I usually choose a name that describes the flight and write nothing in the "Description" field and I have never experienced what you detail here. R-

Good question. Answer? Still happens! I deleted the DESCRIPTION field entirely and it still failed to load at all. This is a most bizarre phenomenon. It can happen with a default FS aircraft or a freeware or commercial add-on. I have no explanation for it and cannot imagine its causes. It has occurred in every gen if FS for me since FS95. It's always been pretty rare, random, and well, just bloody weird!JS

JS,Have you tried to find and open the offending saved flight directly from the list where all saved flights are stored ? Go to: C\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\Flight Simulator Files\. All your saved flights (and flight plans) should be stored in this "Flight Simulator Files" folder.Exit FS9.Scroll down the list and if you find the offending flight with the discription you gave it then double click on the line with the "FLT" extension. FS9 should now open with that flight in it's initial situation. If problems arise in any way you should exit FS9 again and delete both offending entries ("FLT" and "WX") from the folder named above. Also any others with the same or comparable discriptions. Scroll down further and look for lines beginning with "IFR" and/or "VFR" with a "PLN" extension (these are your possibly saved Flight Plans for the flights you have just deleted) and delete any of those which you can recognise as being related to your just deleted flights. Now open FS9 and set up the same flight(s), weather , flight plans, etc. Give it (them) a unique discription and resave the flight(s).That should do it.Good luck.Hans

Well, Bingo! of sorts.I did as you suggested and went to the folde rwith all saved flights and situations. I successfully opened the saved flight that would not open within the already opened FS2004 and it loaded normally. All went well. I then tried to load it from within the sim itself to see if it would open as a saved file in the FS2004 saved flights window and it failed to open. I wondered what else to do.I then went back to the saved flights folder outside the sim and re-loaded the saved flight. I then re-saved the flight after a few seconds. I then exited the sim and went back into the sim and Bingo! it loaded normally. So, now I know for the future that when things fail to load inside FS2004 I should go to the saved flights folder (which actually sits on my desktop) and try going in that way. Thanks for your post. I'm a happy camper!JSHans

Do you have a shortcut to the folder on your desktop or did you move the folder to your desktop?FS looks for that folder in My Documents and not on your desktop. This might be your problem.regards,Joe

It is a shortcut on the desktop. The folder remains wherever it is supposed to be within the C drive.I should emphasize, this is not a chronic problem: it is a comparatively rare and apparently random issue. However, I have experienced it in FS95, Fs98, Fs2000, FS2002, and FS2004. It's very weird indeed. I am not sure I've met anybody who has experienced this. But thanks to Hans' posting, this might now be an issue from the past as I found that I can at least load the saved file by going directly into the relevant FS folder and activating it.JS
