September 28, 200916 yr So you don't think that the stuttering issue with ATI's cards with certain games and particle effects as an example (which does not affect the Nvidia GTX 285) has anything to do with the narrow bus width? As I said before I wouldn't be surprised if the 5870 isn't any better than the 4870/4890 as far as FSX is concerned.Neither clockspeed nor memory bus widths are performance metrics. You have to multiply the two to come up with a measurement of performance, that being memory bandwidth. I'm not arguing that the 5870 is any better for FSX than the 4870/4890 are. We all know FSX is largely CPU-bound. I haven't taken the time to put my two machines specs in my signature, for the time being just close your eyes if you have a problem with it.Your reply is as rude as your inclusion of such a large signature. It is poor netiquette.
September 28, 200916 yr djt01 - you are a troll in search of a flamewar and I will not meet you at your level.Good day.
September 28, 200916 yr Well so much for the image quality improvement I was looking for from the angle-independent anisotropic filtering
September 28, 200916 yr Seems like the new ATI drivers help with heavy weather in FSX. I know for some reason I don't know why but I have never really had a heavy hit in clouds like others have said. It's only been around 3 to 4 fps for me. I have seen posted some people with ATI getting fps hits of around 15. The problem may be with the 4800 512 more then the 1gb series.

September 28, 200916 yr I just didn't want this to turn out to be another usual speculation thread, nothing more.O'Rly? Well so much for the image quality improvement I was looking for from the angle-independent anisotropic filtering
September 28, 200916 yr You've got a short memory. How does that give me a short memory? You stated you didn't want a speculative thread yet you reference a claim for the 5000 series cards that is purely speculative.Next time post legit articles.

September 29, 200916 yr djt01 - you are a troll in search of a flamewar and I will not meet you at your level.Good day.You started it Max by making a wisecrack about his sig. What's it to you? You have to go and insult someone like that for no reason? You are a "know-it-all" without serious qualifications and you throw advice around here like you're the one who invented it. Step off! Some of what you say is accurate but it's mixed with a lot of arrogant misinformation too. And then you go and dis on someone just for the fun of it? :( -jk

September 30, 200916 yr 2 full pages of whining and crying and ZERO talk about how the 5870 handles fsx. The 4850 was HARRIBLE for fsx. At the thought of a cloud the card would choke up 50% of its framerate. In clear weather it was fine. The 4850 was in no way even close to the gtx285 in terms of smoothness or frame rate, especially when weather is present. Anyone that says there was no problem with clouds on the 4800 series is either a noob or a liar. Now, how does the 5870 handle weather in fsx compared to the 4800 series cards?
