I just did it, but I do have FS9 installed. The PMDG installer didn't put the files in the right place, even for FS9. I went ahead and ran it, found the place where the files had been put, and manually installed them into FS9 and FSX. I really don't see why PMDG doesn't update the installer on this great airplane. It seems kind of stupid to me. It runs fine in FSX. Why put their customers through these contortions?

Because it is sold for FS9? It may work in FSX, but I'm not sure if it is intended that way or not.

Actually, it didn't even install properly in FS9. Their installer for this plane is messed up. I can name a bunch of planes that the installer will successfully install to either FS9 or FSX. They could do the same with this plane. There is really no problem with it in FSX. I'm flying it right now in FSX and it's great. All they would have to do is update the installer.

Have you checked with PMDG to see what they say about this, like will the installer run without FS9 installed, or is there some other option? I would test it myself, but I have FS9 on the computers that I would be able to test it on.

You don't need FS9 installed.I just tested the installer, and I had the airplane working in FSX within 3 minutes. Andrew, I'd walk you through it, but you did not sign your post with your full name, so I am unable to help you at this time.

But it was developed for FS9 - so, it wouldn't make sense to get upset if you couldn't. I think remember seeing somewhere that it could be done though...

thanks Vin I'd appreciate the step by step process.edited post: Hi AllI have FSX and loving the PMDG 747I want the PMDG 1900C and Express lines for FSXI do not have FS9 – So the converting instructions to copy files from FS9 to FSX don’t work as I obviously don’t have FS9 directory etc etcDo I need to get FS9 in order to copy the PMDG 1900C files into the FSX directory.I was hoping I could just download the PMDG1900C into FSX, but it doesn’t seem to work.I have thought about the J41, but it seems very simmed up – I like a level of simplicity or at the very least the option to be able to load up and fly asap removing a lot of the intricacies of pre-flight checks etc.Don’t get me wrong, the PMDG 747 has changed my life, it took me a week to get the thng in the air and back on the ground successfully, and it was the most fun discovering the learning curve – but the turbo props seems a little bit in the deep end for me, and if I have to learn it I will, but right now I just want to load a 1900C in FSX and fly away.CheersAndrew Kulchar

Hi Andrew,Thanks for the edit, and also thank you for your recent purchase of the 1900c.Bringing it into FSX is relatively easy:1) Create a temporary folder on your desktop.2) Run the 1900c installer. When it asks for the FS9 directory, point it to the temporary folder you created.3) When the installer is finished, open the temporary directory and you will see 4 folders: aircraft, gauges, effects and PMDG4) Simply copy the contents (not the folders themselves) of each folder to the following directories in your fsx install: a ) Aircraft --> Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes b ) Effects --> Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Effects c ) Gauges --> Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Gauges d ) PMDG --> Microsoft Flight Simulator X\PMDG (the PMDG directory should already be there from your 400X install, if not simply create one). In this folder you will find the manual.Because the airplane was originally created for FS9 and we do not officially support it for FSX, there are some limitations:1) some of your gauges will appear blank, especially on the FO side. These parts of the panel reference airplane gauges that are not present in FSX.2) There are some transparency issues with the spinning props.3) In the aircraft selection menu, the airplane will appear under the publisher category of "unknown" and will not have thumbnail images.Let me know if you have any further questions. Enjoy!

So, why not make these small modifications and re-issue the plane for FSX with an FSX installer? It's a really great plane and very attractively priced.

Because there is no such thing as a "small" modification.

I had a feeling you would answer that way, and I believe that I understand what you mean. I do think that it could be updated to install for FSX without a complete re-make, but I am also aware that there are other considerations. I do hope that at some point your design team will revisit this question. I think you could increase your sales on this great product with an update. I wouldn't buy the plane for a long time until I talked with a fellow VA pilot who had done the FSX install, and knew that it worked.
