Hi all.'S good to see Avsim up and running again. Good on you, folks.I've been playing around with Flight Unlimited 3 for a couple of years & just moved over to FS9 (new graphics card won't do old FU3, existing mobo probably won't do FSX). Gads! wot a difference. Ten times the detail and, bizarrely, a five-fold improvement in framerate too. I wuz so happi. Anyway, living in Britain I've been looking for terrain & airport add-ons and am at a loss about what works with what else.I rather fancy British Airports and VFR Scenery series from JustFlight but have just seen (European) Ultimate Terrain from ScenerySolutions.Could anyone tell me if they are compatible, or if having European UT would make the JustFlight stuff unnecessary. Or... is there a better combination I've missed? I am likely to stay in the UK for a while and don't forsee flying beyond Europe for some time yet. (Home boy, you see). Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave,Welcome from a fellow Brit.I too used to be a big fan of FU3, but I also have major issues with it with my new graphics card. I have kept it on my machine, but only for old time's sake really.I still enjoy the FU3 challenges but MSFS bats in a different league now.I love 'Bush Flying' in British Columbia and Alaska in FS9 and also in FS 2002 [ which still looks fantastic IMO].Closer to home, I have downloaded lots of UK RAF scenery from UKMIL together with some excellent aircraft. If you are into flying off the beaten track in the UK, try Gerry Winskill's UK Farms Scenery in the AVSIM library- top quality and quite a challenge to fly in and out of some of the strips !I have also used one or two other sites specialising in UK scenery - I'll dig the details out for you.Regards...........Stuart Pearson ....West Yorkshire

Ultimate terrain is basically a landclass product. It will put lakes, rivers, towns, streams etc in the correct locations according to satelite data. With UT you will be able to use a road map to navigate cross country. It is a very good product for accurately placing geographic fetures within FS. The VFR scenery is actually a photographic recreation of the sceney. It takes up a lot of hard drive space and can take a while to load. It looks great from about 3500 ft and up and is reccomended for low and slow flight. I use UT in the US and it is a quality product with no frame rate or texture loading impact. Hope that explains it a bit for you

Thank you both. I appreciate your help, and quick replies.I have no net connection at home so have to use my local library, or a PC at work during quiet periods, which makes my responses a bit erratic.I think the farm scenery would be good- I'll have to go looking for it. My curiosity about small private airfields was piqued by a place called Bones Aviation Pages. I thought there was only Welshpool anywhere near my home but a lot more came to light as I looked through that site. It would be nice to have a more complete set of destinations than those given in a clean FS9...I'm not sure if I got the landclass thing right. Am I right in thinking I'd be able to lay VFR scenery textures for the UK on top (in a manner of speaking) of the UT Europe landclass data in order to obtain a photo-realistic UK? You have to bear in mind I come from a strictly-FU3 simming background!And... if I then wanted to replace the generic tree-and scattered-farm-models with a more realistic arrangement of 3D objects I suppose I'd need to make further modifications. Is that right? I guess that GW's farm scenery would go along that way. Thanks again, guys.

Hello Dave,I can say with particular regard to the UK Farmstrip scenery that you need to move your autogen slider to the left to avoid collisions with trees.I would assume that autogen objects can intrude into any add-on scenery in a similar way. Some sites dealing with UK scenery and aircraft are listed below.http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004/uk.htmlhttp://www.ukmil.org.uk/news.phphttp://classicbritishfiles.com/Regards..........Stuart

OMG... OMG... I just turned into a small child in a big sweet-shop. These three sites are major treasure-houses. I don't know where to start!I bought UT Europe at the weekend on the strength of a couple of screenshots. It appears good enough to make my question about British VFR textures redundant.I think some of these scenery packages will go beautifully with it.Thank you Stuart. Regards, Dave (not far from EGCW)

Hi Dave,Enjoy !Stuart ......near to EGNM

Oooh... looks like much more fun than flying alone and it's definitely what's needed to make the sim more 'real'. But I don't think I could get away with installing FS9 on a PC at the local library, and I'm sure my employer would take exception to me spending work time simming! (No net connection at home).I may have to ask friends & family for some major hardware upgrades for Christmas... Trouble then, of course, is that I'd never go out!
